Following releases on Black Coffee’s Soulistic Music and MoBlack Records, South African duo Kususa make their debut on Sef Kombo and Louie Dunmore’s Sondela imprint to release two-track package ‘Overtone’. A striking pair of cuts that demonstrate their Afro tech sound at its finest, the release opens with ‘Inkinga’, where mood-defining synth chords and a hypnotic beat add drama to the intensely atmospheric track. Up next, Kususa team up with fellow Durban DJ and producer Dlala Thukzin on ‘Confuse The Enemy’, where drawn out strings and tension-fuelled builds give the track a cinematic quality sure to captivate its listeners. Whether heard on the dancefloor, or in the sanctuary of solo listening, Kususa’s innate ability to produce records with deeply emotive soundscapes make them one of the scene’s most exciting ones-to-watch.

Self-taught DJ/Producer Atmos Blaq has caught our attention since his debut release back in 2019 and we’re excited to have him on centerstage for a three-tracker like no other. The Soweto born-and-raised rising star has unleashed his musical prowess potently and radiantly over the past
few years, and he flourishes in MBR430.
Starting off the EP, ‘Nefarious’ descends into the underworld, privy to the future and mesmerized by unremitting darkness. Vigorous bass, lustrous synths and poignant melodies propel this 7:01​ minute overdrive to graceful flagrance, gloating in rare sonic oases along the way. Up next, the treacherous semi aquatic reptile, ‘Ingwenya’ erupts menace. At the helm of an abyssal joyride into stratas of intricate organic and electronic sounds, Atmos Blaq aces the dancefloor here, devouring the zone with lethal drumming, trippy mechanical inflections and an imperious groove. ‘Infection,’
titled after one of the most infamous and notorious words in recent history, wraps up the EP.
Proliferating acoustic pathogens, this man made contagion penetrates the body, permeating the senses and pervading its locomotion. Erratic percussion, taut, unforgiving basslines and prophetic symphonies collide in this malignant and avaricious finale but don’t fight it. No one escapes
Ingwenya unscathed.

Through time MoBlack Records has raised the bar, igniting
temperatures with fierce releases in the Afro-house field, and with
MBR431, it shows no sign of slowing down. South Africans Da Capo
keeps the momentum going and in full force, lending his naturally
persuasive and gripping touch to the influential label this spring. The
young and highly regarded star draws from the very essence of his
artistry, passion and mettle, in spooling and spewing two virile, genrebending and ground-breaking tracks.
On A side Femi, a melodic, electro-riff heavy jolt of motion, with
grounding tribal elements at its core but a futuristic ambition. The
propulsive finale is mesmerizing, boasting sporadic acoustic apogees
and chasms that are sure to set dancefloors on fire. Femi is
complemented by Gene. Da Capo beckons on primal instincts with a
pulse-clinching intro, three dimensional, and sense gratifying, churning in the right amount of percussion, bass and lectromagnetic elements that simmer and emit the aroma of irony in beginnings. For every birth, something has broken, and ‘Gene’, the origin of formation, started with dawn breaking, of roots breaking through ground. There are many layers, earthen and synthetic, stratified and recurling in this 8:36 course, altogether echoing the sound of life as it regenerates life, narrating a dancefloor story that is difficult to hear end. Da Capo really stretches his musical jurisdiction and imposes his technical ingenuity through this EP, marking his and MoBlack territory even further, and deeper in.
