Roku opens the fall season with the return of Chriss V & Olart to the label for their highly anticipated second EP, alongside remixes from Jelly For The Babies and Alej Ch.
Making their highly anticipated second EP debut, Chriss V & Olart deliver So Many Stars and Sapphire, a captivating journey through deep progressive textures and celestial melodies.

Opening with So Many Stars, the duo sets the tone with a hypnotic groove layered over cosmic soundscapes a track designed to transport listeners beyond the dancefloor. Adding his signature melodic warmth, Jelly For The Babies makes his first-ever remix debut on roku, reimagining the track with lush harmonies and delicate emotional pull.

On the flip side, Sapphire, offers a deeper, moodier excursion, blending driving percussion with rich atmospheric layers. Rising talent Alej Ch makes his own remix debut on the label, crafting a beautifully textured reinterpretation that balances energy with introspection.

With this EP, Chriss V & Olart showcase their evolving artistry while roku continues to expand its sonic universe, welcoming new voices that are set to leave a lasting mark on the imprint’s journey.

PREMIERE: Chriss V & Olart - Sapphire (Original Mix) [ROKU]

Futureboogie roll into Spring with a heavyweight release from dastardly duo, Ron & Neil, AKA Ron Basejam, and Neil Diablo, who between them bring years of musical chops and (most importantly) ‘the funk ‘to the table, and don’t disappoint here.

In its Original Mix, ‘Pedre Son Éclat’ is a breezy yet sturdy slice of atmospheric synth dance, resplendent with swirling riffs and stammering bass.  A thunderous Roland CR-78 drum pattern keeps everything in check, and its sultry vocals flitter between spoken word and harmonious refrains, lacing the track with a superb ‘new wave’ feel. 

A remix comes courtesy of Man Power, the musical enigma that traded on his anonymity for a couple of years before coming clean as the English DJ/producer Geoff Kirkwood.  Having released on labels like Hivern, Throne Of Blood and Correspondant, Man Power takes ‘Pedre Son Éclat’ into even deeper territories, crafting a moody and spacious version that respectfully stays close to the original mix.

‘You Feel It’ ramps up the funk; the tribal rhythms, horn blasts and other micro samples keep the arrangement lively, all the while that bassline really gelling the track together.  

Rounding off the release is ‘Tears’; tension building strings and beats straight out of the school of Prelude/Salsoul lay the foundation for some grandiose analog arps, soulful vox and funky guitar licks, a super slick offering from the duo.

The next foursome on Tilly Jam. Once again, label-honcho Till von Sein is pushing his variously tempered, tenderly to vigorously crafted House-approaches through the sequencer. Resulting in:

“Feva” – the opener. True to its name, this cut is vitalizing Disco-fever within every detail, be it the funked up bass grounding, the pulse quickening percussions, the claps that are up for a good spank or the string glaze that certainly will disinhibit every floor that’s topped by a mirror ball.

Quick vowel switch and there we are, led into deeper realms by A2. “Fave” is built upon a yearningly keyed in piano-miniature, dense shakers, a groove laden bass and a profound string embrace. Elements that seem to aim for one thing in particular: to crank up the floor thermostat a notch or two.

The B-side is heating things up even further with “Chronic” and therefore this EP’s peaktime recommendation. It is carried out by the most evident bounce within this bunch of tunes, energised by lifted and lowered synth-chords, thickened by a highly effective groove that’s calling upon the rather deeply pumping DJ heart.

And after the closing track is through, it should be obvious which side to take in a so called ‘he said – she said’. This very “She Said” is laid out as a Soul emitting, guitar licks indulging, rimshot-pattern decorated jam, that should cover everyone in a warm, loving glow who is not yet jaded into emotional surdity.

Succinctly hooky stuff here from New Zealand-born, Berlin-based newcomer @zaynkemp on burgeoning Auckland label @at-peace. A delayed, electro-flavoured bassline echoes over taut mechanical beats, all offset by a heady vocal from singer-songwriter Julia Deans (@corofen-1). At once atmospheric and groovy.

Dan Savidge (AKA Bad Zuke AKA The Jinks) has released recent EP projects on Guesthouse Music (Oakland, CA) and King St Records (NYC). In 2012, his single ‘Everybody Talking’ (released on The Shapeshifters’ label Nocturnal Groove) reached number 13 in the Traxsource house chart, and stayed in the Beatport Top 100 for two weeks. It is featured on the hallowed Defected Most Rated Ibiza 2012 compilation.

Also known for his genre stupefying work as two quarters of The Jinks, Dan has been spaffing his goodness all over the front garden of the House that Jack built for nigh on a decade.
 
The sound of Bad Zuke explores the relationship between Detroitian sensibilities and vegan ethics. With influences as diverse as George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, new frequencies are generated from both orderly and transcendant dialogues.
 
The rest of the story is the stuff of myth and legend, in that it is isn't true, but nonetheless, here we are, marvelling at the specimen of human perfection that is Dan Savidge.
