Tuqoos, Julmuds debut album release is a 15 track project rooted in heavy beats that bend space and time to subvert forms of enclosure. The sounds have an almost granular detailed texture while maintaining a gripping rhythmic flow via dense bass lines and a bitter sweetness in the melodies, blurring the lines between hanging on a street corner, at a protest or in a club. Produced in Ramallah - Palestine, Tuqoos pushes up against otherwise inaccessible space, resisting the conditions of a body in capture through sounds that morph, slip through and create breaks in times and spaces that remain occupied.

من كام سنة اخدت مخدر ما وافتكرت اني اغتصبت وانا طفل. كنت بلعب مع صحابي وتهت عنهم. لقبت كام شاب رحتلهم عشان يروحوني. بس اغتصبوني ورموني من العربية. بعد ما رموني مشيت شوية وعرفت انا فين. ابويا كان بيدور عليا ف لقيته وانا في الطريق. هو ياعيني كان مخضوض اني اتاخرت ف كام بيزعق. تقريبا عقلي معرفش يتعامل مع الموقف ف خلاني انساه تقريبا مش عارف.

في التراك ده انا بكلم يس بقوله انهم جريو عشان جبن. 

محدش من صحابي القريبين او عيلتي يعرف عن الموضوع ده ولو حد فيهم بيشوف ده فبقولهم انا اسف اني مقولتش. قريب بس بحاول اتعامل وحكيت لناس قريبة هنا. بحكي عن ده دلوقتي عشان مش عايز افضل عايش وانا حاسس اني مخبي حاجة. اللي حصل انا مليش ذنب فيه ومش بينقصني ادام نفسي او ادام اي حد. 
وانا مسامح الشباب ومسامخ ابويا طبعا.

So Afraid to Show I Care sees Theo Alexander & Qow assume the role of gleaners and foragers, collecting fragments from over a year of collaboration to produce a palimpsest of sonic layers. Their 30-minute micro-epic is built on an ethic of bricolage, covering tape-recorded ambience, voice note instrumentals, warped acapellas and growling double basses, all of which play out in an uninterrupted narrative.

As unabashedly experimental as it is emotional, the album’s diverse landscape features Egyptian spoken word artist otteswed (formerly known as Aly Talibab) and improvising contrabassist Klára Pudláková. On the leading single, Addictive, Pudláková’s double bass, enters into a melodic dialogue with yearning vocal samples. Towards the end of the album, otteswed delivers an existential soliloquy above waves of organ chords performed by Theo Alexander who sampled church organs from Prague, London and Orford. This album brings together material from a string of high-profile premieres across Europe and the UK featuring a rotating cast of collaborators.

Along with the digital release of the album, comes a limited-edition double cassette tape that includes both the album and selected Live performances from CTM festival ‘25, and PAF festival ‘24 featuring George Cremaschi on Contrabass.

Theo Alexander (London, UK) and Qow (Cairo, Egypt) began working together in 2023, and have respectively been featured in NPR, The Quietus, The Wire, and supported by Shape+, Britten-Pears Arts, and others.
