The aural landscape provided by "Today You, Tomorrow Me" is replete with atmospheric context. Emotive images of hope and optimism wend their way through the opener as if travelling down a coruscating mountain road, confronted by a dramatic landscape as the world around converges in a moment of epiphany. Awe-inspiring natural forces then provide a backdrop of mental imagery as rolling waves and white horses translate to musicals equivalents throughout the "7am Mix".

Sieg's mastery provokes contemplation as the jagged beats of "On Your Own" jut out of the aural landscape akin to rocks rising up through an ominous and brooding seascape. Juxtaposed against this are soft and mellifluous melodic patterns that rise and fall in flowing beauty around their beat driven counterparts with effortless ease; waves coalesce and dissipate around the rock edges occasionally crashing into their surface with dramatic impact.

Outwardly innocuous in its opening movement, the "Unique Repeat" remix stands apart. Images of significant portent are summoned as a dramatic bass line matches a foreboding skyline before a crystalline lead line lacerates the audioscape, piercing a barren landscape with driving rain while simultaneously providing a sense of cleansing hope and vibrancy.

Golden sunlight dapples through a leafy canopy, dancing and sparkling on the water below as the ambient aural soundstage provides a natural and enveloping soundtrack to the turning of another season. "We Only See Sun Glare" - the perfect accompaniment to a summer season that imperceptibly drifts into autumnal colours. A supremely serene compilation by Mango Alley captures the very essence of late summer mood.

Eleven musical vignettes beautifully characterise the simultaneous emotions of joy, sadness, love and contemplation. The emotive piano from the album's opening movements, juxtaposed against ticking percussive patterns, conjuring images of nature's pitter-patter rain rhythms on hot pavements. It started out as an original with the acapella as a placeholder vox, but eventually I started making the entire song to those beautiful vocals.. It goes through a story of sorts and isn't any traditional arrangement. Hope you enjoy as much as I do. ;) _dan

The compilation kicks off with a moody and exceedingly emotive new interpretation of "Images" by American talent Dan Sieg (of Dan & Sam). The Original Mix, a peak-hour cut by British star Toby Hedges, proved to be a widely supported single on Silk Royal. An ominous and richly cinematic soundscape is crafted early on in Dan's rendering, with an extended 2-minute intro. A cavernous bassline enters the affair at the quarter turn, which slowly begins to crescendo (only enhancing the foreboding textures). Dan Sieg & Sam Wilkinson, better known as Dan & Sam, dazzled international progressive fans and DJ's alike with their debut effort on our imprint, "Breaking The Illusion". Not only did it receive great international DJ support, but the single also went on to reach #2 on the Beatport Trance releases chart, as well as earn a spot on Max Graham's acclaimed "Cycles 4" compilation [Armada]. Their sophomore effort, "Walls", is another ornate and melodic progressive gem. This time around, they have recruited promising vocal talent Maxx Hennard, whose rich baritone adds a warmth and "sophisticated" sentimentality to the track. The one and only remix in the package comes courtesy of American sensation Shawn Mitiska, whose decorated veteran career includes numerous solo hits, most recently "Salt" [Enhanced]. Supported on countless occasions by Armin Van Buuren, amongst other top international DJ's, Shawn Mitiska has been a truly humbling addition to our label roster this past year, with standout remixes on Schodt's "Heatwave" and Shingo Nakamura's "Whither". His work here, a vocal rendering of "Walls", affirms that he truly possesses a remarkable talent for crafting intelligent and uplifting peak-hour tunes. 

The Original Mix by Dan & Sam kicks off with a lush chord progression, a central motif of the track, and is soon joined by early echoes of Maxx Hennard's stunning vocal. After a quick mini-break, the bassline pulls back slightly, setting the stage brilliantly for Hennard's soulful and evocative verse. The memorable lyrics culminate in the chorus with the line: "The only walls we've got, are the walls we built ourselves". It's a breath-taking moment, augmented by the gorgeous delayed vox and lead synth lines that fill out the soundscape. In the drop, the central groove teasingly returns with just the kick, followed soon thereafter by the arrival of the full rhythm and (chorus hook) in full, anthemic force.

Nearly a year ago, Dan & Sam dazzled progressive fans with their Silk Royal debut "Breaking The Illusion". Since that time, they have continued to write intelligent and deeply poignant club-oriented tracks, such as "Walls" (feat. Maxx Hennard), which won the "Push The Button" vote on Above & Beyond's "Group Therapy" radio. We're thrilled to present their third original single on Silk Royal, "An Interesting Dream", which also comes equipped with a tremendous interpretation by American sensation eleven.five.

The Original Mix kicks off with a tech-influenced groove; Dan Sieg, 1/2 of the duo, has been dabbling in deeper, darker shades of house and progressive under his solo alias in recent months. Yet, as the track approaches the main break, we start to hear the synth "swells" more associated with their more familiar, big-room sound. In the main break, we are met by a suspenseful, yet truly gorgeous main theme. The tune comes to a climax at this moment, heightened by the crescendoing percussion. The drop to follow, perhaps to the surprise of the listener, reverts back to the more subdued groove, thereby releasing the "tension" of the dream and suggesting that any potential nightmares have been averted.

This incredibly gifted duo consists of Dan Sieg and Sam Wilkinson, who hail from the States and Australia, respectively. On this particular release, Japanese label veteran Shingo Nakamura contributes the sole remix, which is truly as emotive and timeless as the original.

Dan & Sam's Original Mix is a melancholic, yet uplifting progressive trance anthem, which effectively channels the emotional energy required to 'break the illusion' of a previously blissful relationship. It begins with a chunky rhythm and "teaser" guitar pluck, which hints at the incisive theme that is featured in the main break. A powerful low-end energy emerges after the 32-bar intro, soon followed by higher-octave chord layers and subtle piano-based melodic themes. At the quarter turn, an awe-inspiring progression arrives: numerous layers create a deeply moving and haunting theme, upon which the remainder of the song builds. In the subsequent breakdowns, various variations on these themes are introduced, all of which wax and wane in intensity and emotional resonance. I originally wrote this as a lullaby for a girl over a year ago, and over the year it turned into what it is today. There much more to say, but sometimes things are better left imagined. A thrilling series of releases by Dan in the proceeding months begins with "No Way Back Up," the first single from his forthcoming "A Sense Of Wonder" artist album. In "No Way Back Up," a gentle breakbeat slowly picks up steam, while a variety of bell-tinged hooks and other supporting melodies contribute a lush soundscape. The patient crescendo ultimately culminates into a stunning chorus by Michael Ware of Illuminor, who sings of the tragic dissolution of a relationship. Michael profoundly delivers the metaphor of a fall too painful and far, from which to recover.

Over the last few years, we have had the enormous privilege of witnessing Dan's remarkable evolution as an artist, from his uplifting and lyrically profound vocal hit "Walls" (feat. Maxx Hennard) to his deeper, more introspective remix of Toby Hedges' "Images." His journey has now reached a new plateau with the arrival of his debut artist album: "A Sense Of Wonder." The album features 10 brand new cuts, all of which display Dan's immense artistic range, as well as the sensitivity and depth of feeling that have imbued all of his work to date.

The listener's journey begins with "Iris," which fittingly opened our Silk Royal Showcase #250 live event in San Francisco. A hypnotic arpeggio and distorted background synth provide an unforgettable intro, which is soon followed by a clubby, up-tempo house groove. The title cut appears next, which centers on delicate arps, celestial synth stabs, and a techno-influenced bassline motif. The brooding and pensive "Gloom" initially paints a bleak existential picture, yet ultimately delivers a deeply moving (and hopeful) melodic theme. The fourth cut on the album, "Erko," treats fans to an infectious vocal line from Dan himself, while a progressive house groove and lush melody offer additional aural sustenance. The album's lead single, "No Way Back Up," arrives next and features the sensational Australian duo Illuminor, who have proven themselves to be a formidable threat in both the production and vocal arenas. A breakbeat rhythm eventually crescendoes into a stunning chorus by Michael Ware of Illuminor; the combination of Dan's innovative groove and Michael's poignant vocal performance is truly breathtaking.

The second half of the album begins with "Welcome To The Alley," a sun-kissed, festival-ready anthem in-the-making. The song's psychedelic bassline will tickle your brain and simultaneously compel you to dance. Next in line, "Grace" offers a club-friendly, cavernous bassline and an outer-worldly atmosphere. The subsequent cut, "Wispy," is a slow-burning, after-hours affair, with an equally evocative soundscape. The album's penultimate track, "Techbruary," represents Dan's foray into tech house; it is also reveals the lighthearted and humorous side of his personality. Finally, the trance-influenced "Horizons" brings the album to a glorious conclusion. American artist Dan Sieg joined Silk Royal in October 2012 with one of the most memorable opening statements in the history of our imprint: the emotive progressive trance anthem "Breaking The Illusion," released under his "Dan & Sam" moniker. Over the last few years, we have had the enormous privilege of witnessing Dan's remarkable evolution as an artist, from his uplifting and lyrically profound vocal hit "Walls" (feat. Maxx Hennard) to his deeper, more introspective remix of Toby Hedges' "Images." His journey has now reached a new plateau with the arrival of his debut artist album: "A Sense Of Wonder." The album features 10 brand new cuts, all of which display Dan's immense artistic range, as well as the sensitivity and depth of feeling that have imbued all of his work to date.

The listener's journey begins with "Iris," which fittingly opened our Silk Royal Showcase #250 live event in San Francisco. A hypnotic arpeggio and distorted background synth provide an unforgettable intro, which is soon followed by a clubby, up-tempo house groove. The title cut appears next, which centers on delicate arps, celestial synth stabs, and a techno-influenced bassline motif. The brooding and pensive "Gloom" initially paints a bleak existential picture, yet ultimately delivers a deeply moving (and hopeful) melodic theme. The fourth cut on the album, "Erko," treats fans to an infectious vocal line from Dan himself, while a progressive house groove and lush melody offer additional aural sustenance. The album's lead single, "No Way Back Up," arrives next and features the sensational Australian duo Illuminor, who have proven themselves to be a formidable threat in both the production and vocal arenas. American artist Dan Sieg, whose debut artist album ("A Sense Of Wonder") this past year proved to be a veritable tour de force, has emerged as one of Silk's leading talents. A musician who is constantly pushing the boundaries of various electronic subgenres, Dan awes us with his extraordinary range yet again with the downtempo progressive house EP, "Moonstruck".

The title cut clocks in at a slow-burning 112 BPM, but the intricate rhythm and moody soundscape are expertly crafted from the composition's opening moments. The patient groove slowly crescendoes, as a gorgeous, bell-synth lead progression is woven through the mix. In the breakdown, the main theme opens up and envelops the listener with warm, radiant vibes. One of Dan's most technically brilliant works to date, "Moonstruck" will likely be appreciated most by true audiophiles, as well as fans of deep electronica.

On the B-side, Dan contributes the cosmic "Over The Stars", a more traditional progressive house offering (at 124 BPM). One again, a subterranean groove is met by a delicate, yet strikingly beautiful arp line. The bassline begins to pick up steam, while a few additional midrange layers complete the crescendo of the melodic themes. In the break, a powerful climax evokes an awe-inspiring celestial event.

Dylan was around while I made a lot of stuff for my last album. Around the time of Gloom and No Way Back Up, I was trying all kinds of kick patterns just because it was exciting and new. So, one day he came with this sick kick pattern that to this day I still can’t follow, and a nice complimentary bass line along with it. It was so interesting that we thought to make a full song of it. We ended up calling it 'Patterns', because of the sweet midi patterns. It's a nice moment where you can get lost in fun syncopation. Hope you enjoy.
