Heartbroken, helpless yet honest and truthful. A true story by Dans Mon Salon, «dressed up» by producer Echonomist. As the title of their latest collaborative work in between Echonomist and Dans Mon Salon indicates , there is a lot about love affairs to be said. Even the ones that have ended and are about to get going again. Having followed the hype that their release with Mike Polar on Third Wave Black made, Dans Mon Salon and Echonomist are back with a more housey and soulful approach that will be definitely adored by listeners and groovers alike. The tune is based on simple chord progressions, a relentless hypnotic loop that locks into a sloppy groove. The more simple the structure and textures of the composition by Echonomist are, the easiest the will to drift into the playful (at times) sensual atmosphere. It could be said that at times it reminds of the sounds that Flying Lotus first brought up with his contemporary electronic hip hop, though the later’s works are easily 20-25 bpm lower. Obviously the track could be «labelled» as modern Chicago house music, maybe put it next to Underground Quality releases, (the new scene that Jus Ed, Dj Q and the lot have created). Nevertheless, the moody vocals by Dans Mon Salon on ‘Never give up’ are taking the track to the next level: While the tune on its own creates a cosy-pleasant feeling, the singer seems to have dived into a nostalgic reminiscent cry for his beloved. Promising and endlessly seeking after his woman, Dans Mon Salon dedicates his singing to the mysterious «flashy woman» who left him in despair…There is a kind of coolness throughout this song that at times might bring to mind Moodymann’s story telling like way, a jazzy note, half spoken half sung, surely free and loose. It could be that Echonomist’s latest work (either the instrumental version, or the vocal) flirts in between pop structure and pure modern house, but one thing is certain, that the word surprise comes up to the surface every time Dans Mon Salon joins in. The collaboration in between the Greek duo seems to just have started. Both of the versions of the track will be available from the New Jersey label Mixx that is being ran by house maestro Brother’s Vibe.
