Sound Avenue rounds out a strong winter season by showcasing new interpretations of ‘Vanilla Noise’ by Madloch, Subnode and Pedro Capelossi. Originally released in November of 2020 as part of the ‘Turmeric Latte’ EP, it found the trio combining their creative forces for an exquisite organic house journey. With detail, rhythm and musicality all at a premium, it proved to be the perfect selection to close out the two-track showcase. Now with the Spring season upon us, Sound Avenue invites Valdovinos and Rohrer & Stohler to re-imagine the track.

Making his label debut and providing the first interpretation of ‘Vanilla Noise’ is Valdovinos. Since making his production debut just over five year ago, the Argentinean artist has found a home on All Day I Dream, Shanti Radio Moscow, Tale & Tone and TRYBESof. Also an accomplished DJ, Valdovinos has had the honour of opening for top international talents such as Gui Boratto, Giorgia Angiuli, Hermanez and Luciano. Now making his much-anticipated Sound Avenue debut, he provides a dreamy take on ‘Vanilla Noise’. From deep yet robust beginnings, the piece moves fluidly through a storyboard of thumping beats, chunky bass and buoyant rhythms. Whimsical in nature, its fluttery melodic concepts captivate across the first act, before an interlude of distant voices and clustered chimes elevates emotion on wards into a spirited finale.

The release concludes with Rohrer & Stohler making their label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Vanilla Noise’. Although their discography is short, the Swiss duo have already found a home on Dream Culture and Nie Wieder Schlafen since making their debut in 2018. Now presenting their first production of 2021 the Baden residents deliver a rousing rendition of ‘Vanilla Noise’. Exuding warmth, atmosphere and organic design, Rohrer & Stohler’s unique style carries you on an evolving eight-minute journey. Drawing on the sensibilities from the original, the duo marries distinctive design elements and striking percussion with meditative rhythms and placid atmospheres. Vocal edits drift across the pulsating framework leading into the main break, where a tranquil calm resets the groove for a late night finale. An inspired interpretation from the Swiss duo, which rounds out a welcome remix edition for ‘Vanilla Noise’ by Madloch, Subnode and Pedro Capelossi.

A musical triptych flows from the fingertips of about : river as he delivers "Go Into the Mist". From his Estonian home, Oleg Ivanov has carved out a name for himself with a unique approach to electronic music and "an ear for the cinematic". Making his Particles debut with a beautifully evocative interpretation of Davide Ferrario's "End of an Era", about : river now returns as "Go" revels in a distinctive atmosphere that centres around a clever bassline and dynamic melodic sequence. A shaker-fuelled groove and off-beat clap add to a vibrant rhythmic collage as a beautiful piano motif adds to the overall character at the breakdown. "Into" continues the innovative aural character with a beautifully arranged musical collage that floats across 7-minutes with coruscating arpeggios and counterpoint synth lines weaving in and out of each other in intricate sonic patterns. A broken beat rhythm adds further to the fresh and vibrant sound while anchoring the musical components expertly in place. "The Mist" completes the picture with another subtle breakbeat foundation before a sublime piano sequence runs across the piece in melancholic fashion. A plucked synth line then glides delicately above in sensitive counterpoint tension resulting in a genuinely moving end to the triptych.

From the banks of the Rhine in north-western Switzerland, Dandara has been a renowned name in the Electronica and Organic House genres for over five years since a 2014 debut on UOVOOO. Since going on to feature on the likes of Sol Selectas, Underyourskin and Lump Records, the Swiss star has continued to make a name for himself on his own eponymously named imprint while making a significant impact on Spotify with over 160,000 monthly streams. Making his Particles debut, the Dandara remix of "Into" is a typically creative interpretation that combines elements from about : river's original with a rich array of additional production work. Adding a 303 inspired bassline, an ethnic vocal cut makes its presence felt while spiky analogue synth plucks create a dynamic new cadence. Harnessing the essence of the original, Dandara's skill is to create a powerful club-friendly interpretation that is a potent addition to the Particles catalogue.

A firm favourite on the Particles roster, Michael Chihaka has been a regular on the imprint since a debut remixing Aeikus' "Juno" in September 2019. Since then two original EPs have lit up the label with October 2020's "Nyara" and May 2020's "Pinda" showcasing six original tracks and Chihaka's indisputable talent. Since then, remixes for Pole Folder and Ric Niels have shown another side to the South African's talent as he now returns to remix "Go". Creating an exquisite groove that firmly echoes the original, the central motif immediately provides sonic familiarity and cadenced foundation to his rework. A heavy beat and off-beat percussion add rhythmic force and a hypnotic syncopated synth line creates an evolving sound in the third movement.

Through a powerful musical narrative, about : river has hit new heights with his "Go Into the Mist" EP, richly complemented by Dandara and Chihaka.

Saint-Petersburg based artist Valer den Bit lands on the Depth label with a fantastic new EP featuring four new originals next to a couple of remixes from Ian Ludvig and West & Hill. 

Lira opens up with deep, rolling drums and some gorgeous piano chords draped over the top for a nice emotive vibe. Feya then keeps the cuddly moods going with warm drums and soft hits that are overlaid with aching motifs and more thoughtful piano chords. Next superb original Sonata then layers up more sunny synths with a tropical house groove that is full of warmth and soul for those open air parties. Matterhorn gets a little more dark and tech edge for late night dancing, with driving kicks but still plenty of lush melodies.  

Lira (West & Hill Remix) is an expansive, organic house cut that takes your head up into the clouds with its new age melodies and expansive grooves, then last of all Sonata (Ian Ludvig Remix) closes out with a deep, shuffling house groove perfect for cosy backrooms. 

This is a heartfelt EP that exudes real house class.

Often times a group of artists come together to create something alluring and magical, and the “Tomorrow” EP from the duo of Umami and Turkey’s Zigan Aldi is just that. The title track weaves dynamically through a range of sound and percussion, constantly contorting and braiding the parts to a defined peak that comes back to drive it home.

Dansor is fast cementing herself as one of Holland’s hotly tipped electronic music artists. Founder of Comport Records, the Hungarian-born Producer and Media Technologist is also the former winner of Pete Tong’s Bedroom Bedlam and Dave Clarke’s ADE Demolition panel. An established Live Act as well as a DJ, Dansor’s performances have graced Sziget Festival, Ozora Festival, Balaton Sound, not to mention an inventive appearance at ADE where she performed her debut album ‘Theory Of Love’ live alongside jazz musicians, or her interactive AV performance during TEDx with a sensor jacket and Ewa Pepper violinist.
 
Born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, she grew up listening to Duran Duran, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk before moving to the Netherlands in 1997 - a switch that would play a significant role in intensifying her relationship with all things house and techno. Throwing herself into the scene, she found home in the work of electronic acts such as Art Of Noise, Leftfield, Front 242 and clubs such as “Feketelyuk” (Black Hole) and “Zöldség-Gyümölcs” (Fruits and Vegetables), not to mention the acid house parties that sprung up during the time.
 
Acquiring a taste for illegal raves in her home of Budapest, she later left due to the country’s economic situation to make her way to the Netherlands in search of a new lease of life. It was here where she acquired her first set of decks and also made friends with Dutch producer Georgio Schultz who pushed her towards installing Cubase on her Atari computer. She would later establish her ‘WomenWaves’ parties in her adopted town of Haarlem, followed by ‘Budapest Delight’, 'BLD', 'Hotchpotch', 'BLEND' and 'MULTIVERSUM' events in Amsterdam.
 
The "DANSOR" project was born during the final semester of her Media Technology studies in the ‘00s. A live act that could be controlled without the need to stand behind a laptop, it didn’t immediately set pulses racing - with even the lady herself admitting that it was way ahead of its time. What it did prove beyond any doubt, however, is that Dansor is a producer not intent on taking the traditional route.
 
Such avant-garde approaches course throughout her productions too. Unsurprisingly, then, they’ve been picked up by a host of seminal worldly imprints including Little Mountain, This Is Recordings, Nervous Records and Tulipa. This is replicated in similar vogue via her Comport Records that also plays host to her intricate sound by incorporating elements from house to techno to dub, jazz/funk, italo disco, new wave and indie.
 
Ahead of her debut album ‘Theory Of Love’, Dansor has released a selection of singles from the long player, including remixes from Channel X's Jiggler, Animal Picnic, Thomas Gandey, Zoe Xenia, Sezer Uysal, Just Her and Natural Flow. These have received support from the likes of DJ Mag, Complex, Electronic Groove, Ibiza Voice, When We Dip, 8 day Montreal and her remix of Digitaria's  ‘Useless Fantasies’ even picked up support from Rolling Stone. 
 
Dropping her debut album at the start of 2016, ‘Theory of Love’ garnered a glowing print review in DJ Mag, radio support from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Nemone, John Digweed and Jonty Skrufff, not to mention topping the Beatport charts with the release hitting no.1 in Breaks, no.14 Electronica, no.18 Deep House, no.23 in the Tech House - resulting in an overall Top 100 appearance at no.93. 
Now, with her live set evolving and Comport Records maturing, 2022 looks to be the most propitious year yet for this bright and promising individual.
