Danuja Perera is back stronger, resolute, and more artistically inspired than ever before with their debut album – 20. A tonally dynamic flourish of emotion, 20 explores everything from happiness and hope to pain, anger and regret. According to them, it’s about “Moving on from people who come and go in your life, liking people, feeling depressed and learning how to chill when you’re feeling it- anything and everything that’s part of the teenage experience”. In the momentary brink of transition from that youthful flurry to a more deep-seated adult persona, the album looks back on the rainbows and the storms alike and acknowledges the experience, before taking their next big step. The only certainty is that the child inside remains. From upbeat electropop tracks like “see the good” to more badass talk-to-the-hand tempos in "i don’t like you”, they make experimental dives between genres. Soulful, ballad-like- “not alone this time” with its characteristic violin accompaniment presents a riveting contrast from the more glitzier lo-fi atmosphere of “chill”.  With the title track “20”, Danuja takes a dive in nostalgia and the process which brought them to their present standpoint, both as an individual and an artist; a threshold where the many layers of their complex personality comes to rest. For them, “Writing a song is like writing a book. You just put your pen down and let the emotions flow” and that’s exactly what makes their work authentic, special and courageously personal.
