From the vault of dreams and reels that never rolled comes Big Back & Sweet Crack – The Harlem Heat — the soundtrack to a film that was too raw, too righteous, and too real to ever hit the screen.

Kabooki Jukebox resurrects the soul cinema spirit with a funk-laced, smoke-drenched score that channels the storytelling swagger of Isaac Hayes and the conscious cool of Curtis Mayfield. Every track paints scenes of Harlem in full heat: velvet nightclubs, streetwise hustles, rooftop chases, and slow-burn seductions under sodium lights.

Though the film never existed, the music makes it real — a sonic screenplay built from groove, grit, and guts. Big Back & Sweet Crack isn’t just a soundtrack. It’s a universe imagined in wah-wah riffs, string-laced tension, and basslines with a blade in their boot.

This is Blaxploitation reanimated — not as pastiche, but as prophecy.

I first heard this when I went to see the legendary Don Letts DJ at an out door gig a while back, as soon as I got home i looked up who had done this awesome version and found it was a French reggae group by the name of the Dynamics, needless to say I got a hold of the record with a quickness. I have been meaning to do an edit of this for a while now, and as I am approaching nearly 1000 followers I thought I might do a few special limited download edits over the coming weeks to say thank you to all the kind people that stop by and listen to the music I share.

With the full length, Return To The 37th Chamber dropping April 14th, El Michels Affair releases another flawless two sider to hold us over.

Side A’s cover of Tearz is as much an homage to the Wendy Rene sample as it is to the Wu-Tang Clan track.

The song starts as a glazed over cover of "After Laughter" with Shannon Wise of The Shacks singing Wendy Rene's timeless mantra. Halfway through, the mood dramatically shifts and the drums and organ that drive the original RZA sample, take over. A dubbed out Lee Fields taps in like only he can, and the song spirals into outer space.

Side B finds EMA dipping into the deeper side of the Wu catalog with Raekwon’s Verbal Intercourse. Mixing the grimy, gritty production aesthetic of the original with elements of dubbed out reggae, El Michels Affair once again pushes the definition of a “cover” and truly makes it a tune of their own.
