For the 100th mix in our Rhythmic Culture podcast series, we invited no other than Zgjim. The DJ and producer hailing from Kosovo, but currently based in Amsterdam is the co-founder and co-runner of Kosovo-based collective, label and club night 'Angry Youth'.

Over 60 minutes, he weaves his way through mutated dancehall, Latinx music, Jersey club rhythms and percussive artillery. This one is not for the faint hearted.

We’re extremely thrilled to welcome @shespellsdoom to our Soundcloud Invite series! We’ve been following him for many years and feel extremely happy to present you with an incredible mix for Kulture Lab. His development has been spectacular and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for SHE Spells Doom. 

SHE Spells Doom is an experimental Electronic music project created by Zambian producer, Wamya Tembo. It draws inspiration from a number of his influences, such as 80s Sci-Fi/Horror movies, (Congolese) Rhumba/Soukous, Gqom and early 2000s Rap production, which he mixes with House and Techno elements he picked up from his time living in Geneva, Switzerland. 

His style can best be described as hazy but driving - usually seeking to create a visceral atmosphere without neglecting the dancefloor by combining trademark airy synth-lines with heavy drum programming.

The past few years have seen him release work on labels such as Creme Records, Monstart, Sweat Equity, HTS, All Centre and Tresor.. Watch out for his upcoming release with the amazing All Centre and other interesting collaborations.

It’s Latin Heritage Month, an annual celebration of the cultures and contributions of Latin American and Hispanic communities. 

We’ll be commemorating the occasion with a series of mixes spotlighting regional styles and music traditions past and present, presented by a selection of contemporary artists. 

Today’s mix, which lands on Mexican Independence Day (16 September), comes from Mexico City-based juke producer Sonido Berzerk. Coming in at just shy of 90 minutes, his offering touches on all shades of club music and makes for a pretty irresistible listen.

BIKYU comes from a Cantonese family that immigrated to Tāmaki Makaurau in the 1990s. Having spent time in China and Aotearoa, BIKYU was raised in a mixture of Western and Chinese culture and is now finding music a continuation of their (often confusing) self-expression. Selecting from his favourite Asian musicians and producers, this genre-blending festive mix for the new year of the rabbit explores the nostalgia that has been sprawling in his mind since the start of the pandemic that kept them away from their homeland. From the then avant-garde 1990s and 2000s Cantopop songs to the variety of Sinofuturistic tracks that are indeed careful investigations of the Chinese diaspora, through the mix, you’ll find everything he loves and misses and everything that has made him who he is today.
