Backing up impressive outings on Lapsus Music, One Dance Left, Aparenzza Music, and more, Parisian underground duo Catsinka make their Más Vida Music debut with Response, also featuring Black Seven Music frontmen BRODYR on remix duties. Kicking off with the title cut, Response serves a weighty underbelly of chugging grooves and swinging bass notes complemented by endless percussive shuffle and playful vocal chops, resulting in an undeniably danceable underground vibe-builder. The BRODYR remix of Response offers dynamic contrast and oozes their signature Black Seven Music sound: potent drums, thick and prominent bass, and a never-ending wormhole of percussive movement to get lost in. Its mind-bending transitions bring the remix together perfectly, making it a standout addition to the Más Vida Music archives. Catsinka, a DJ and producer duo from Paris, have been creating their music since they met in 2018, blending tech house with minimal vibes. Their distinctive production style has been featured on labels such as Lapsus, 303Lovers, Vassnova, and Clarisse, earning support from international artists like Solardo, Riva Starr, Roger Sanchez, and Viviana Casanova. Their music has also been broadcast on prominent radio stations, including Data Transmission (UK), AMW FM (NL), Ibiza Global Radio, and Radio FG (FR). With both their productions and sets gaining attention, Catsinka is a duo to watch closely. BRODYR, the dynamic DJ duo from North Wales, have been making waves in the global Tech House scene since 2015. Their name, meaning Brothers in Welsh, reflects their familial bond and powerful musical synergy, which is evident in their groove-laden, percussive Tech House style. Heavily influenced by Marco Carola, BRODYR have released successful tracks on their label, Black Seven Music, and Unnamed & Unknown and Distance. Beyond the studio, theyve electrified stages at top events like The Warehouse Project, Parklife, and Hideout Festival. As founders of Black Seven Music, they are key influencers in the Tech House genre, continuously pushing its boundaries while aspiring to make their label a global phenomenon. Next up on Will & Ink is a second release from Yeleesa Hall & Malin, hot on the heels of their last collaborative effort, Lucas, at the end of 2015. Once again the mysterious Hall and Amsterdam/Paris based Oscillate Music boss cook up some hard hitting house that is sonically inventive. 

Opener ’First Carol’ has hulking kicks and hits and a writhing, monstrous sounding synth line that brings real rawness and energy to the four-four beats all around it. Some spooky little beat-less passage of eerie industrial sounds appear before ‘Second Carol’ again slips into a well swung and purposeful groove. This one is rubbery and rolling, with dubbed out chords riding up and down and airy hats adding a sense of scale. Another EP of contemporary club music of the highest order.

Dedication to details, attention to structure and a tireless pursuit of that specific and circular sound. The contextual element of ’Time Tracks’ seem to be placed in-between the most cordial music that Skudge has presented up until now, as well as bridging the singularity and adrenaline from the previous albums and EP’s.

We are invited into a palette of vivid mastery of details, brushes of percussion and narrowed basses that shatters deep. Pads and strings which acts as a foundation, evolves the music to a rigid composure.

A sonic narrative that seem to stem from motifs of the Earth, reflections of personal flair and moments remembered, dwelling on records collected. ’Ifach’ serves as an ode to the legendary UK imprint. Combining ’Time Tracks’ into a stark collection of studio sessions that features colleagues Daniel Andréasson (on Function) and Samo DJ (on Ifach).

One could argue that this is a territory proven to tick all the functional boxes, but Skudge manages to yet again display a highly personal take in a realm of conciseness.
