Frank Amodo is no stranger to the decks. A veteran DJ with roots dating back to 1987, he’s dived into an eclectic range of sounds from hip hop and electro to freestyle, house, and synth-pop. But it was 1997 when Frank locked into the raw energy of underground house—and he’s been riding that wave ever since. In the late '90s and early 2000s, you could catch him playing at various venues and house parties and fully immersed in the underground scene. After taking a break in 2007 to focus on family and his career in photography, the pandemic reignited his passion, pushing him back into the mix in 2020. Streaming live on Twitch, Frank shares both his latest releases and unreleased tracks, connecting with fans and peers alike. His music has landed on some serious labels like Cross Section Music, HI! In this 1 hour journey, I pack 26 tracks of dreamy, dubbed out, stripped down jazzy vibes and lofi chill beats.  Perfect music to roll one, sit back, pop on your headphones and let your mind vibe out to. 

Still learning the ropes on mixing this genre, so some mixes aren't perfect but the music throughout is simply amazing and I hope you all dig it!!

Been a few months since the last instalment of my Speed Bumps series which showcases my love for hip hop, downtempo, and jazzy downbeat vibes.  Life's been crazy for me lately and I find myself having less and less time to work on musical projects, so im happy I've found the time to whip this one up for you all!  Still learning the ropes when it comes to mixing this genre, so it's not perfect but the tunes are dope!

Speed Bumps Volume 7 | Selected and Mixed by Darius Kramer

Have had a lot of people ask me over the past few months when the next Speed Bumps mix will be coming out.  Truth is, it takes so much time and playing around to come up with a series of tracks that work together for a long enough mix!  Finally came up with a set that I think flows really good, and hope you guys dig it!

Lots of great jazzy, groovy downbeat sprinkled with some dope underground hip hop jams.  Cant thank you guys enough for the support on the Speed Bumps series so far, hard to believe this is now Volume 8 in the series!  Still definitely a work in progress for me as this is a huge change from mixing house music, but I love the challenge!

Playing other peoples music for other peoples enjoyment since 1993.

Darius is a self proclaimed "House Addict".  He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early '90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio.  He was hooked from then on.  He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back.  

When he moved to Vancouver in the late '90's, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records.  Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves.   After getting tired of both the late nights and politics in the scene, he decided it was time to hang up the headphones in the early 2000s, but the love of house music still burned inside of him as the years passed. 

In 2013 he decided he wanted to get back into DJ'ing and purchased a basic Pioneer controller and started to collect digital tracks again.  Over the past few years Darius has been busy making a name for himself in the underground scene with numerous guest mix appearances around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few.  He also started the very popular "SPEED BUMPS" mix series which showcases his love for hip hop and jazz as he shows his versatility as a DJ by blending mixes of nu jazz, hip hop instrumentals and acid jazz flavours reminiscent of Mark Farina's legendary series, Mushroom Jazz. 

He also launched the hugely successful "Soul Room Sessions" podcast showcasing the soulful and jazzy side of house music and downtempo beats with guest mixes from some of the biggest names in the game and the series is still going strong!

In 2017 Darius got his first taste of out of town gigging playing live shows all over the West Coast from his hometown in Vancouver, to San Francisco and Oakland.  Stay tuned for much more from him in the near future!
