Dark Strands first EP, released on “Stripped Off” last summer, was picked up by Matt Walsh and became one of his most played tracks of 2013.  After a recent 12” on Craig Bratley’s Magic Feet Recordings that has been championed by Andrew Weatherall, Antony makes his debut on Clouded Vision Recordings.  The three tracks are backed with a mind-bending remix from the next CV stalwart, Few Nolder.

The new and mysterious producer from Leeds makes extremely well produced, all analogue, slow paced dance music and draws influence from the sounds pioneered by Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston’s A Love From Outer Space clubnight.  With this EP he blends it with a darker, Aphex Twin styled acid approach, a perfect fit for Clouded Vision Recordings.

Coming hot on the heels of Khidja’s return to the label with their Never Seen The Dunes EP, is a set of remixes by friends and family of the label and band, featuring no less than Discodromo, Inflagranti, Red Axes and Selvy on mixing desk duties.

A proper Remix EP with all 4 tracks from the original EP getting a proper European flavoured rework. Starting with Discodromo, this dynamic Italian duo produce for the likes of Dissident, Internasjonal and Slow Motion Records, DJ around the globe and run the exemplary CockTail’s d’Amour label out of their Berlin base. Their unique take on the modern discoid sound is perfect for the title track and taking right to the red zone. Adding pulsating bass, driving appegio, all while allowing the bump of the original to keeping pushing things on, it’s a perfect introduzione.

This is followed by Inflagranti’s inspired retake of the deeper vibes of Aura. A huge favourite of the label, the Swiss team keep the bass and dam’ funk, but head straight for the autobahn to create an old school NYC electro-dub style remix. A matured cruiser that keeps the swing, it all leads to those strings and Eastern flavours gliding over for the perfect finale.

Things head darker on the reverse, with Tel Aviv’s shinning stars Red Axes, maning the controls for the scatter bounce of Indecis for the stand out remix. Twisted vocals, brooding FX and reversed guitar all atop a mesmeric kick, things just keeps going higher and higher.

Finally The Quiet Before The Red Stop is passed on to a name for the future, Selvy. With appearances on Polish Cut Outs and a recent EP for Transatlantyk, here he takes the ‘Balearic’ grooves of the original adding some club bumpin’ bottom end and kick while maintaining a lightness for the White Isles. A perfect way to round off. Watch the skies (and basements).

Israel’s hottest export follow up excellent EPs on Hivern and I’m A Cliché with a 3-tracker for the global psychedelic cult of Multi Culti.

Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise’ builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it’s the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out… an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what’s playing. Next up, ‘Hope’ kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It’s understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender’ slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Melbourne’s Kris Baha, fresh from launching his Power Station imprint, offers a stripped down remix of ‘Waiting for a Surprise,’ with a heavy, industrial-influenced groove that wanders into the deep, dark end of party strasse.

'Sea Of LCD' is the debut offering from new forward-thinking techno pop act Scarlett &amp; The Pixels. The London-based solo act's opening statement is a bold one that reveals not only a deep understanding of the constructs and sonics of underground dance music but also a love for the evocative melodies and lyricism of classic pop music. The track in question is a delicate homage to the early 80s synthpop of Depeche Mode and New Order. This is analogue soul with a dark heart.
 
Daniel Avery AKA Stopmakingme, has carved himself an impressive reputation as a DJ, producer and in-demand remixer. With a residency at internationally renowned club fabric, releases on Bang Gang 12s, RemuteD and Kill Em All and remixes for Metronomy, Black Devil Disco Club and Hercules &amp; Love Affair to a name a few, he is making an indelible mark on the world of house and techno. He delivers an accompanying remix picking apart the sentiment of the original he rewires it into a slow-burning 4x4 astral voyage.

Unlucky for some but not it seems you or us, DOT013 comes comprised of a hat trick of deep and sultry, some would say R’n’B flavoured slow jams, made for those sexier evenings when you feel the urge to want to nod your head, wine your body and give those hips something of a work out as opposed to just pointing haphazardly to the sky whilst hopping between legs and occasionally pulling your best “ooooh listen to that bass line” face. Though those evenings clearly have their place as well.

James Welsh has, it must be said, lived quite the life already, from touring with post-punk outfit The Rise, riding BMX in Texas or remixing everyone from Britney Spears to Depeche Mode or DJ-ing around the world as part of Ocelot, a key player in that whole blog house scene from a few years back. Basically the boy has been there and done it, he didn’t even buy the t-shirt, he designed it and then sold it back to you and your folks for a massive profit. We said it was R’n’B flavoured and R’n’B flavoured it is. The Way sounds like James got locked in a basement with Baby Face, Brandy, Monica, Jodeci and Montell Jordan and was forced at gun point to make a track that could be played in those sexy nightclubs that all the ghetto stars go to, where they spray Cristal over each other then have a fight and post a twitter picture of their war wounds. Fighting and champagne spraying is optional though sexy dutty-wine dancing is not.

If we had to classify one of these tracks as ‘the peak time one’ then Walk would be it, now our mum always told us to walk before we run and we don’t like classifying things too much so let’s just say that if you want to make loads of people jack, but in more of a sexy way as opposed to that frantic jerking shenanigans they used to do back in the early nineties that was recorded on beta-max then this is the track to employ. It’s low-slung and sultry, jacking house music, which means ladies like it too.

Hold should perhaps be named Hold Tight, as in “you’d better strap yourself in and hold on mate”. But it isn’t. If you like your music slowed down with enough low end to dislodge your undercarriage then this is the track for you. It’s got some spoken word vocal on it and some chanting that crops up from time to time but the rest just kick-drum and bass, loads of loverly, slow, elongated bass. It sounds more like you are in the jungle than in a night club, so more Greystoke than Grey Goose.

Toronto’s My Favorite Robot Records look to the second remix package taken from Farimont’s superb recent album ‘Automaton’…
 
Fairmont’s third studio album ‘Automaton’ was released on My Favorite Robot Records in 2012 to a rapturous response from fans and press alike. The deft fusion of vocal indie tinged songs with richly layered electronica had producers lining up to remix tracks from the LP leading to not one but two remix singles featuring album highlights remixed by the great and the good. Part one saw an outstanding selection that featured an epic remix from Ewan Pearson amongst others, now the second package is ready to drop with a killer remix selection.
 
The EP kicks off with the holy pairing of Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris under their It’s a Fine Line moniker who take ‘Creatures of the Night’ and rework it into a robotic and glitch electro influenced offering. Metronomic clicks and bleeps blend with rich bass and syncopated rhythms to provide a solid bed for Fairmont’s spacey vocal deliver, quality stuff. Next up we have the excellent Nhar who gives ‘Sara’ a makeover, coming up with a blissful, balaeric house workout that is pure audio pleasure, an unmissable laid back gem that is essential listening for the summer ahead.
 
Remix duties for ‘Waiting’ fall to label bosses and Canadian super heroes My Favorite Robot who strip the original back and rebuilt it as a pulsing, dark slice of electronica replete with brooding pads and angular synths, sublime. The package is closed with another Canadian pairing, this time between No.19 Music owner Nitin and Clayton Steele who take ‘Libertine’ and twist it into a piece of brilliant percussive techno.
 
Another winner from My Favorite Robot record, so no surprises there then!
