As the voice and spirit of Bestial Mouths, Lynette Cerezo is a powerfully haunting figure. Across international stages and recordings, spellbinding performances take audiences through voidic visions.

Since their inception in 2009, the core root of Bestial Mouths has combined Cerezo’s voice—itself an integral piece of that form—with myriad genre influences across the spectrum of goth, industrial, post-punk, New Wave, noise, metal, and other underground sounds using live acoustic and electronic drums and analog synthesizers. DIY samples pepper each album, evoking a constant need to explore greater depths of experimentation. With a history in fashion design and gender activism, Cerezo’s visual and social aesthetics are interwoven deeply into Bestial Mouth’s presentation, building outward into captivating theatrical live performances.

Cerezo has not rested during the final year of the decade, quietly working on a new LP for 2020 while she practices her other passions. Featuring in the short film “Terra”, a special hybrid performance for Randfilm Festival, a vegan leather jewelry collaboration with Berlin designer Tommy Vowles, as a character in Wir Kellerkinder—a new book promoting weirdness and goth for kids— and a Planned Parenthood-benefiting release are just a few of the bright points of 2019, with the highlight being the release of a new Bestial Mouths EP.

INSHROUDSS marks the first release where Cerezo asserts full control. Together with Brant Showers (AAIMON, SØLVE) and Alex DeGroot (ZolaJesus), INSHROUDSS is a profoundly personal release that brings BestialMouths’ journey full circle. The scrap metal, tribal drums and raging guitar of the project’s early goth-punk roots returns, amped up with snarling electronics and laced with field recordings captured during the writing process.

Cerezo’s voice is more present than ever, the lightning rod around which the arcing aurals coalesce. Detailing the past two years of her life, INSHROUDSS is released onRUNE & RUIN, a new label formed together with friend and frequent collaborator Alison Lewis (Linea Aspera, Zanias, Fleisch Records) as a way to help and showcase strong women in the underground scene.

In their decade-plus existence, Bestial Mouths have worked with many acclaimed producers and artists. Zola Jesus, Mick Harvey, Egyptrixx, Boy Harsher, Die Krupps,Mater Suspiria Vision, Zanias, The Horrorist, and Ludovico Technique are just a few collaborators, while they’ve shared the stage with the likes of Psychic TV, Austra, Chelsea Wolfe, DAF, 3Teeth, OAKE, Front Line Assembly, White Ring, Suicide Commando, David J., King Dude, Youth Code, Cut Hands and Light Asylum.

NULL / VOID celebrated its 3rd birthday in July, but with lockdown at its peak we had to settle for a live-streamed event, which was a banging evening thanks in no small part to Soft Riot and Skrot Centralen's sets!

Conceived as a monthly club-night blending dancefloor-oriented industrial, techno and EBM - something popular elsewhere but lacking in Glasgow - we started on Sunday 2nd July 2017, taking the first Sunday slot in Nice N Sleazy's basement. We were thrilled to see such a mixed crowd show up and this only built over the first few months, encouraging us to put on our first live show for Hallowe'en that year. We chose goth overlord Qual to fit with the Hallowe'en theme, and synth wizard Soft Riot came onboard as support. The night was a resounding success, which led to us focussing increasingly on live acts (along with a few of our fave fellow DJs).

Since then we've had live acts playing most months - such as techno heavyweight Duellist, local rave wiz Sluhg, industrial icon E.S.A. and EBM master Autumns - and DJs like JD Twitch of Optimo and Ben Techy. We've also done occasional events in larger venues where we've had guests like NYC's Andi Harriman (of Synthicide) Keepsakes and Christina Sealey of Orphx.

We were really hoping to be able to have a party to celebrate making it to 3 years but obviously there are bigger things going on - missing the live gigs gave us the idea to put together some tracks from the guests we've loved so much over the years, almost like a mini-festival for your headphones. We're pumped to have local legends like Kleft, Denizens and South Heights rubbing shoulders with international belters Multiple Man and Celldod,  while there's new flesh in the form of punkish upstarts A Civil Terror and Skrot Centralen plus a debut from one of oor Dirty Marc's own projects, Duras.

We are donating any proceeds from this release (tape/digital) to Scotland's own Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights - there's so much we want to highlight and help all over the world, but for now there's still work to be done on our doorstep.

Dark rhythms, apocalyptic pads, or voices that seem taken out of the same underworld, without a doubt we can say that listening to each one of his tracks, it is left to intuit the influences of the artist, that are alternating between broken bases to the purest sound Electro Techno, with own sequences of the EBM, arriving even in their hardest tracks to play with genres like the Industrial Techno.

Wet Skin is an exercise in secrecy and lurid confession; electronic music inspired by the emotional hangovers of digitally mediated sexual encounters (and non-encounters).

Each song on the debut album from Wet Skin is a vignette of isolation and frustration against the market's ethos of constant connection and overbearing permission to indulge. Pornography at the limits of capitalism and cybernetics; choosing a date reduced to a casual fusion of shopping and gaming. Songs like "Sex Negative" offer a meta-thematic confrontation with the proto-incel themes of some industrial music. Other tracks such as "I Hate What You Like" are less heady, airing a rageful annoyance at the constant push-pull between enlightened criticism and 'just letting people like things’.

Musically, "Animal God" maps out a space between the slinking mid-tempo grind of "Concrete Jungle"-era DIVE and the guilt ballads of "Pretty Hate Machine"-era Nine Inch Nails. Drawing on themes from Michael Mann's 1986 masterpiece "Manhunter," the speaker in all six original songs tries to face up to the disturbing (and increasingly forgotten) reality that we're more like the monsters we deplore than we'd usually care to admit. Occupying an underworld of shadowy, whispering ambiguity the track list plays like an unearthed chest of lost disclosures.

Disorientation hangs over every word in "Hide From The Light", an intimate, depressive, polar bookend to the album's detached, hedonistic opener "Exposure". The menacing cover of Red 7's "Heartbeat" casts the original song's portrayal of romantic desire in an even more grim light than when it appeared in the end credits of “Manhunter”.

The album is rounded out by eviscerating remixes from Statiqbloom & SARIN. Released as 50 limited edition cassettes + digital on April 2nd, 2021.
