Seeking to reimagine music from his eclectic repertoire in a neo-classical context, Iranian producer Amirali marks a triumphant return with the release of his ‘Sokoot’ EP, alongside the musicians of Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, one of the top 10 philharmonic orchestras in the world. Set for release on 29th September and translating as ‘Silence’ in Farsi, the 3 tracks are designed to have a connection with our current state: When the virus hit, the world went silent. “I composed these pieces with my dear friend Jakob Eisenbach who was also the conductor for the Tonhalle concert in Zurich”, he explains. “The 1st piece ’Dystopia’ expresses the current chaotic state the world is facing; the virus, corruption, constant war and global warming, but I always like to think there’s light at the end of the tunnel in order to stay sane. The second piece ‘Resurrected’ shows a new beginning; a coming back to life. Maybe it’s about myself after being away for a while. The 3rd and final piece ‘Dismantle The Sun’ is a reset to everything. Imagine if there was a push button for that.” These names are not just symbolic, but also show his current state of mind when working on them, and the final orchestrations result in something extremely powerful, cinematic and emotional.

“There are always pros and cons when changing musical direction, but I’m always willing to take that path because that’s what makes me feel alive. I tried to be honest with myself throughout this whole process, this is why I called the album ‘Trial & Error.’ I didn’t have a dynamic setup in the studio and I was constantly changing things around, experimenting and using different techniques to compose these pieces.”

Iranian artist Amirali is back with the new PINK EP on his Dark Matters imprint this May. It follows up his second studio album, 'Trial & Error' in 2020 which received critical acclaim and finds him delve back into dance music in his own unique and special way.

Amirali's critically acclaimed album was an avant-garde / experimental project which rejuvenated his creative side and now he is back to explore the dance floor once more. He says of this EP, "I was heavily inspired by the sound of the late 80s and early 90s while working on 'PINK’, particularly the Berlin Love Parade era; music and culture that originated in Detroit and NYC and spread throughout Europe served as inspirations for this release. There was something magical about that time period that still gives me a thrill just talking about it."

'PINK' is an electric track with slick drums and busy arps bringing light and soul. It's a constant upward trajectory that sweeps you off your feet as more melodies arrive and get hands in the air. 'A Shooting Star' then has heavier drums with deep, warm bass. It's got cosmic energy from the smart synth lines and textured percussion adds edge and bite next to epic vocals.

Dark Matters is a record label and visual project created by Amirali. As an unknown songwriter and producer, Amirali first shot to prominence with his inaugural release on Crosstown Rebels. He has since toured the globe promoting his particular concoction of avant-garde electronica, techno and house. An extension of his broad musical palette, the label will be running in conjunction with a series of curated parties beginning in October in London.

The Dark Matters record label is a cohesive experience where ‘weird’ and unusual is encouraged, aiming to push people to the edge of their comfort zone and keep them there. Aiming to stand out from the myriad of similar events and releases that happen every week in London and the rest of Europe.

By the very definition of the term Dark Matters, the label aims to initiate a response from the listeners and partygoers. Dark Matters has a connection to galaxies, the mysteries of the universe, the beginning of a concept bigger than we can imagine.

The events will centre around a combination of sound and visuals that express the dark and psychedelic concept behind the label. The crowd will be enveloped by installations, each event will be a collaboration between an art collective and or arts students, keeping the ideas and approach at the forefront of London’s creative scene.

With the aim of releasing original material from live acts and Amirali’s own productions, the scope of Dark Matters is broad, ranging from techno to abstract pop and ambient. The versatility and open-minded creativity will be mirrored in the events and the artwork for the records themselves.

Dark Matters kicks off with an EP from label boss Amirali dropping in July. ‘Fearful Stay’ will be released on vinyl on the 6th of July and digitally on the 3rd of August. The EP features a re-work from future label mate Aboutface and a remix from Prins Thomas. The melodic complexities and hypnotic vocals in Amirali’s original mix are re-worked, securing this EP as a confident and stunning debut.

Aboutface is firstly a composer/live performer and secondly a DJ, hailing from East London he steps up for the next release on Amirali’s newly founded imprint ‘Dark Matters’.

Drawing upon both the sociological and environmental landscape as creative inspiration, Aboutface uses his background in fine art and painting to help inform his productions. All the last three years music has been inspired by a thousand mile plus journey through Eastern Europe and around the coastal regions of the UK; each song using the environmental recordings of a different region or city as the creative starting point.

He says "I like to combine field recording, acoustic and analogue sounds to articulate small stories in each song. My creative influences range from Pierre Schaeffer, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Claude Debussy, through to James Holden, Four Tet and Boards of Canada.”

The complexity and broad fields of influence are evident in ‘The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding’. The EP is made up of three tracks, ‘The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding’ is a meandering and laid back percussive track whilst ‘My Benevolent Shackle’ exudes a darker intensity. Lastly Tin Man steps up for a remix of ‘The Hazy Path To Misunderstanding’ adding more frenetic energy to the track and upping the pace.

Aboutface’s compositions are intelligent, and with a debut album planned for next year slotting into the eclectic Dark Matters' growing roster, the future looks bright.

Dark Matters, the eclectic imprint founded by Amirali is proud to announce its third release, Paul Valentin 'Inner Harm’ due for release late January 2016 on vinyl and mid February on digital. Growing up in a small village in southern Germany, Valentin was influenced by his musical family. Studying classical guitar himself, he combines acoustic, electronic and field recordings in his music creating cinematic compositions. Valentin’s music feels intensely personal, he cites coincidence as playing a major part in his process, happening upon magical moments in his self-recorded audio data which develop into broader features of the tracks.

‘Inner Harm’ is made up of three original tracks and a remix courtesy of Locked Groove. Inner Harm feat. Search Yiu on vocals is perhaps the most aurally textured on the EP, combining crunching percussion the track builds slowly into a swelling composition. Locked Groove’s remix contains the same swell, looping the vocal and introducing a punching kick drum turning ‘Inner Harm’ into a hypnotic and intense techno
cut.

'Nested Circles’ composition is based around the guitar, Valentin layers sounds, building the track into a sweeping crescendo before settling into an even rhythm.

‘Zugunruhe’ on the other hand, the first track that caught Amirali’s attention, uses piano as its main component. It is the most melancholic on the EP shifting into a broken beat, rich with field recordings and drawn out notes.

Both tracks maintain the use of percussion that enhances the depth of the emotionally charged and complex EP.

Maintaining the intelligent output on the label, 'Inner Harm' sits perfectly amongst the previous two releases.

The first track on the compilation “Chromatic Dreams” is skilfully executed, keeping the dark and psychedelic vibe that Dark Matters is becoming known for. It has dreamy vocals that echo with 80’s synth and a drum pattern that is reminiscent of techno. The breakdown creates a whirlpool of different associations, the depth of the bass and stutter of the overlaying synths is a mesmerising mixture.

“Maladaptive Lover” is built on synth melodies that give the track a spacey vibe. David Bowie played a big part in Amirali’s creative inspiration, this track is an eccentric ode to the space man, a modern and dark underground pop interpretation of Bowie’s influences, the eccentric, the dreamy and the avant-garde.

Midnight Operator’s remix of “Maladaptive Lover” reinvents the track, the most dance-floor ready cut of the EP. The dreamy energy, although maintained in the synth patterns is now much more intense. The melody drives forward and doesn't linger in self contemplation as Amirali’s original tracks do. The vocals soar through the machine bleeps and faltering high end, tumbling into a crescendo.

The Dark Matters imprint is a cohesive experience where the weird and unusual is encouraged, aiming to push people to the edge of their comfort zones and keep them there. Aiming to stand out, this EP fits perfectly into the evolving compilation of releases from Dark Matters.

Following this mesmerising and exploratory project, the young London based composer and DJ returns with a new release. 'In The Tepid Shine We Breathe' is due out on the 19th of September.

The three track EP opens with 'In The Tepid Shine We Breathe feat. Darker', Aboutface's subtle skill imbues his work with a stillness and precision even when blending analogue forms of media 'such as 1/4" tape, Cassettes and VHS as a part of the sonic palette,' he is able to create additional depth in his music. Darker aka Jenna Whelan's Vocals gently break the tumbling elements with an airy beauty.

‘There Must Be Chaos Within You To Give Birth To A Dancing Star', the second track on the EP showcases Aboutface's use of field recordings, light rain spatters the ground as a warbling synth line gradually becomes bolder. Eventually this is joined by a simple drum pattern, somehow managing to maintain the eery melancholia Aboutface is so adept at creating.

Redshape steps up for a remix of the title track. He highlights the vocal sample before rearranging the drums into a punchier and more streamlined rhythm. The track morphs into a dance floor heater, perfectly complimenting the slower pace of the originals with a faster and straightforward approach.

"When I get a request to do a remix, I take that as an invitation… an invitation to express.

The sounds from the original composition become doors / gates… stepping stones for me to travel into this very moment and investigate how it is always changing (that changing being me).

I start working with the sounds… looping, playing, shaping… like a ceramist working with the clay, a painter working with the brush and paint, or the baker working with the dough. This process becomes a mantra; a meditation, and my studio becomes filled with sounds and rhythms… echoes from the original song, filtered by this very moment, temporary passing through ”someone” being called Sebastian Mullaert or Wa Wu We. 
Expression taking place and there are ”NO MORE WORDS”. Music becomes being, just Being.

STL is one of my absolute favorite artists, this specific invitation felt very special to me and the journey around the creation of the remix has been very deep.

Now I invite You to take part of it, let your consciousness express this very moment through the experience of the music. Again, being is just Being.

Seeking to reimagine music from his eclectic repertoire in a neo-classical context, Iranian producer Amirali marks a triumphant return with the release of his ‘Sokoot’ EP, alongside the world class soloists of Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, one of the top 10 philharmonic orchestras in the world. Set for release on 29th September and translating as ‘Silence’ in Farsi, the 3 tracks are designed to have a connection with our current state: When the virus hit, the world went silent. “I composed these pieces with my dear friend Jakob Eisenbach who was also the conductor for the Tonhalle concert in Zurich”, he explains. “The 1st piece ’Dystopia’ expresses the current chaotic state the world is facing; the virus, corruption, constant war and global warming, but I always like to think there’s light at the end of the tunnel in order to stay sane. The second piece ‘Resurrected’ shows a new beginning; a coming back to life. Maybe it’s about myself after being away for a while. The 3rd and final piece ‘Dismantle The Sun’ is a reset to everything. Imagine if there was a push button for that.” These names are not just symbolic, but also show his current state of mind when working on them, and the final orchestrations result in something extremely powerful, cinematic and emotional.

"‘A Fly In Your Tongue’ was the last track made for the album, after finishing this piece I felt the album was complete. To me this track is a reflection of the different musical journeys and experiences I’ve had over the past few years - A way of expressing all my emotions and feelings into one last track. Part of the vocal was actually recorded a few years ago for a completely different song. Recently I’ve been experimenting a lot, combining bits and pieces from unfinished tracks and merging them into something new and beautiful. This happens rarely, but It gives me a unique sense of satisfaction when these formations happen and even more so when it works out."

With the aim of releasing original material from live acts and Amirali’s own productions, the scope of the label is broad, ranging from techno to abstract pop and ambient.

Dark Matters will also be hosting global events which will fuse live performances and visuals that express the dark and psychedelic concept behind the label.
Dark Matters is a cohesive experience where ‘weird’ and ‘unusual’ are encouraged. It aims to push people to the edge of their comfort zone and keep them there. 

By the very definition of the term Dark Matters, the label aims to initiate a response from listeners and partygoers. It serves as a connection to galaxies, the mysteries of the universe, the beginning of a concept bigger than we can imagine.

The imprint will continue to cultivate, maintaining a commitment to unearthing and displaying new talent as well as exhibiting Amirali's refined musical statement.
