So this one was made public a while back via Fabric but seems to have disappeared from the internet completely now bar some kind soul upping it on youtube so let's make it right. upload a FLAC and put downloads on. I missed this Plex party as I was travelling and caught about 5 minutes of it on the phone in a pool in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This is a closing set 04:00-06:00 in the main room of Corsica Studios and it didn't disappoint.

All being well there will be a few more sets from this party released in the future, another decent Plex for sure line-up wise.

This was the last two hours of my opening set for @kicks-hugs-berlin at Renate back in December, unfortunately the recorder didn't catch the beginning of the set so we just jump straight in to the groove.

You may be familiar with the work of Reeko, the Pole Group co-founder and Spanish auteur whose furious techno has expanded the definitions of his genre and piqued clubfloors over the last decade; Juan Rico’s alias has galvanised the world of electronic music like few can. Over the course of his active years he’s worked on a parallel body of work under the pseudonym Architectural, at first in the shadows of anonymity, now coming into the light. Through this second epithet he channels a more fluid sound, one that uses much of the same percussive scaffolding but goes deeper. The project began back in 2010 with a string of releases on his self-titled and newly pressed label and the 2012 release of Peacetime on Semantica Records, cementing his rise as a deft and mysterious talent from the Asturian coast. The intrigue continued with a fusing of his two projects in 2013, a Reeko and Architectural release on his native Pole Group entitled The Blue Album, a dialogue between the two visions, harsh kicks of the first fused with the trailing reverb of the latter. The next two years saw a pair of releases develop the sound he’d built via his own label and Dutch imprint Wolfskull. In tandem, his sets at Tresor, Printworks, Robert Johnson, Bassiani, Awakenings and his local festival LEV have brought his heavy atmospherics to a wider audience. His sound is primal, dubby and immersive, the output of many years of sonic research and collaboration, paced-out and rich with intelligent details. Here, for one of the most important mixes in this long running series, comes Bassiani Podcast 252, a truly singular piece recorded back in November from this paragon of experimental techno.

Throughout the years, Detroit-born Berlin-based groove operator and Tresor / Globus resident Eric Cloutier has been honing and refining his palette as both a producer and a DJ. Not one to engage in dogmatic restraint, Cloutier keeps developing his vision through carefully curated selections and an equally impeccable mixing technique. Boasting the variety and precision of his releases for his own imprint Palinoia, the present mix was recorded live at The Chinese Laundry in Sydney last year. Playing the main room open-to-close, Cloutier put together this mix as an evolving story and, much like the crowd of that night which proved highly receptive to the narrative, we hope this one will resonate with you. A most exquisitely complex and deep-diving plunge into Cloutier’s shape-shifting headspace, alternating heavyweight punch and dubbed-out minimalism with swashes of textured membranes and faux-organic, modular-like intricacies, this mix is as elusively impossible to pigeonhole as it proves sophisticated in its design.

As avid fans we are happy and proud to welcome mr. Mike Parker in our podcast series. There aren't many sounddesigners with a more recognizable soundsignature then the Buffalo producer. Or more hypnotic and estranging for that matter. His new album 'Lustrations' just hit stores worldwide and showcases better then anything else what Mike is capable of when he gets his groove going. He asked us if he could step outside the techno realms for this mix, something we off course encouraged. The result is nothing short of remarkable and gives an insight in his inspirations and influences. Enjoy!

Here's what he had to say to us:

1.What is your relationship with Balans?

I am honored to play an event for Balans on July 12th.


2.What do you do to try and stay in balance? Any tips & secrets you would like to share with us night folks?

I wish I had a universal answer, but for me there is the balance of creating music and making drawings. Sometimes they inform one another and sometimes they provide a release from each other. Also, I find that its good idea to avoid television.

3.About the podcast, can you tell us the story behind the mix?

The mix is the third chapter in a series of podcasts I have completed recently. The first for Smoke Machine Taipei, the second for EDLX, and now BALANS. Each mix emphasizes sound design and analogue sound creation. There is music from the past, representing my musical influences and music from today. There are some rhythmic tracks, but not neccessarily techno, rather "proto-techno".

4.What gear did you use to make the Balans podcast?

Two Technics turntables and one CD player.

5.What do you have in store for us (gigs/releases) the coming months?

Right now, there are some remixes coming from various labels and of course, my new Prologue album "Lustrations" is now available. Also, I invite people to check out a new label called Mariana Wax, which has just re-released an older track of mine called "Below Zero". This once rare tune has been re-mastered for vinyl and it sounded great when I played it on the Berghain system. More gigs in Europe and Japan are planned for this summer. When I return to the US in September, I will begin work on an EP for Semantica.

BALANS031 - Mike Parker

In the beginning of the 2000s Saynar started organising private parties in the bastions of the Targu Mures fortress, playing music untill sunrise. In Cluj, "La Gazzette" Club was the scene of shaky parties, where he often collaborated with various guests from Bucharest and Radio Tilos Budapest. Saynar's sound moved from Funk, Breakbeat, Drumanndbass to Techno and House. Innovative and engaging, it was the soul of parties in many clubs in the country and abroad. Attending the 2007 Ozora festival in Hungary, opened his interest and perspective to psychedelic music, and since 2015 he is part of the Solar Seeds Transylvania team
