instrument of thought

I have a long relationship with the "init" sound of Nanostudio's Eden synth. It just sounds so awesome. So I wanted to see how far I could push the sound with minimal tweaking. That's how this track and its main arp riff came about.

Never Alone

Another doomy piece, this is the sequel to the action in Fools Rush In, when it becomes apparent that it is problematic leaving a room furnished with no exit. This is probably the most minimal track I have made, but B2 more than compensates for the paucity of instruments (4 tracks on here). This didn't take long to make. The guts of this were lifted from Fools Rush In and re-purposed. This piece is also the first track I mastered using a custom-built, minimal T-Racks chain.

Edit 20150201: Remastered with a 0.6dB cut at 290Hz, a tiny boost (0.2dB) at 100Hz and a 0.3dB cut at 20Hz 

Edit 20150216: Slight levelling changes, LCF raised between5-10Hz on all instruments. PEQ applied between 444-492Hz on two synths. Slightly lowered levels on mixer channels, Remastered with a slightly tighter HPF on the low end. I think this mix sounds more "relaxed" and less congested. The peak amps are now coming in at -2dB instead of -0.2dB. DR increased to 13

The sixth track I ever produced. Originally from May 2009, I just remixed and mastered the track. During the remix I substituted a Dominator RezSine patch used for the E-Piano in the intro with a LazySnake patch. The original was too muddy when playing chords. This track was a longstanding musical ambition of mine. I originally discovered the inspiration for this track in 1976, although this has more of an early 80s feel to it. Tangerine Dream fans might like this

This started out as an attempt at trance. It didn't work, so I stripped all the instruments out and changed the synth.

Change of Heart

This is more Prog than Electro. 2 years ago I realised that I could make Mellotron sounds without having to lug the thing up and down staircases. Nice. I suppose this is close to Dark Ambient, with T-Dream, Crimson and Genesis influences.

Uploaded new version 17/12/2011 - after reason lahalla spotted some congestion around 400Hz and I picked up on some distortion on the master,  I shaved 0.5db off all of the instruments, added a 2db parametric eq centred at 400Hz and remastered 0.2dB down on the hi and lo end. I think this is cleaner than the original.

Remixed and uploaded new version 20130102 - Removed some low frequency rumble, relevelled and added FerricTDS to master bus
