The story behind the song: 

One of my closest friends recently opened up to me about her relationship. Truth be told, she was terrified. Her current boyfriend had spent the past two years tracking her location, threatening her physically, and putting immense pressure on her to stay with him. When hearing that my friend was experiencing something so terrible, I felt helpless, especially as she refused to accept any help. I knew that it was tragically quite common for women to experience this kind of thing, but I hadn’t quite grasped the scope or terrible nature of it all. Our conversation really opened my eyes; I wanted to do something, anything, to fight back. If ‘What Makes Me Cry’ and the awareness campaign I’m running help even one woman, I’ll be over the moon.
