Danilo Plessow AKA Motor City Drum Ensemble is on a constant mission to discover new sounds. This one-man-band(ensemble), hailed for his unique combinations of retro and futuristic German house, draws from an impressive and multi-faceted record collection. The celebrated DJ and producer shares some of the music that inspires him every month here on Worldwide FM. On this edition, Danilo is joined by Darone Sassounian, a DJ, record collector, and producer from Los Angeles. He runs the indie record label, Rocky Hill. Sassounian focuses on bringing an array of sounds into the world - ranging from styles introduced to him at an early age, to sounds he sought after later on. Influenced by music made in the 70’s and 80’s, his goal is to approach contemporary audiences by clashing the old with the new. Styles ranging from disco, soul, jazz, international obscurities and house.

On today’s edition of the show, Darone invites @LaraSarkissian. Lara is an electronic musician, DJ and broadcaster born and raised in San Francisco; currently based in Los Angeles. Sarkissian is a resident on NTS Radio, a home for her narrative-style mixes that showcase dance and electronic music from around the globe. She blends across dub, techno, house, dnb, bass, jungle, noise, mainly hailing from the underground and a reflection of her collaborations with artists in the respected genres.  Sarkissian cofounded experimental dance label and event series CLUB CHAI and has released with labels Tresor, Knekelhuis, All Centre, TT, and SOS Music. She has DJ'd nights for Tresor, Hyperdub, Unsound Festival, MoMA PS1, Roskilde Festival, Boiler Room broadcasts and more.

On today’s edition of the show, Darone is broadcasting recent finds from digging for the first 40 minutes. For the larger half, Darone has invited good friends @danilo-plessow and @hugo-lx on the guest section of the show. The final 80 minutes features Danilo and Hugo going back to back, recorded earlier this year at La Bellevilloise for their “Free Your Funk” party. They will be back at the venue in Paris next month, January 2024, for yet another edition of “Free Your Funk.”

On today’s edition of the show, Darone invites Julion De’Angelo (@electriccactus) on guest mix duties. Julion is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ raised in North Carolina and based in Detroit, MI. Playing bass, cello and drums across many genres, from free jazz to metal, to noise and punk, has fortified De'Angelo's musicianship and cultivated a constantly evolving sound rooted in the Black American experience. With a steady stream of releases, De'Angelo has cemented his ethic as an adventurous sonic innovator both celebrating and pushing beyond the dancefloor with fearless and moving compositions. De’Angelo has released projects on labels such as Sound Signature, Visions Recordings, and Tone Log Jr. In 2023, Julion launched his label, Maybee Hill Music, with the release of his EP under the same name as the label. The label reflects his ever- evolving pursuit of fresh sounds and musical exploration. De'Angelo continues to make an indelible mark on the world of music as he challenges conventions and reshapes the sonic landscape with each electrifying performance, impassioned collaboration and distinct composition, honoring the transformative power of Black expression and pushing it forward.

On today’s edition of the show, Darone invites musician, producer, and DJ, Daniel Monaco (@danielmonaco). Daniel Monaco started his music career as a professional bass player and toured with big acts before becoming a solo artist. Daniel eventually manifested a fascination for Obscure Italo Disco, Acid House, 90s Trance & Techno that can be heard in his various Dj sets & productions .  It's something he calls a Cosmic Combination. Daniel created an Alias called Disco Mortale. Disco Mortale appears when his production get more Obscure than average, touching the strings of Techno EBM & Trance.

His sound leans heavily on vintage drum machines, guitar pedals, and thrift-store keyboards, shaping a style that’s as raw as it is playful. He takes over on the second half of the mix for guest selections.

On today’s edition of the show, Darone invites Riti. Riti is a wildstyle DJ and selector based out of Austin, Texas. She carries an eclectic bag traversing wide musical (and emotional) terrain - synthpop, balearic, jazz, electro, new wave, and beyond. Riti also draws inspiration from old Hindi and Urdu melodies that soundtracked her childhood and sparked a lifelong love for music. From the Texas Triangle to the high West Texas Desert, Riti has played for dancefloors across the state (and a bit beyond state lines as well). Her DJ sets drift freely - and at times haphazardly - through genres, however the underlying impulse remains the same: to reach for “something” beyond the limits of daily life.
