Following up his 2013 TSR release eMeltwater, Simon Templar - one half of Finnish duo Winkee - returns to Touchstone with another two part release. eTo The Stars is trance music of the highest order. ePt. 1 sets the tone, with rich layers of arpeggiated bass, sweeping pads and a huge cascading synth riff which builds relentlessly throughout the track. Unusually for tracks of this genre, there is no traditional breakdown at all, instead Templar moves the arrangement through twists and turns, locking people in a tight groove on the dancefloor. As if that were not enough, the +10 minute colossus that is ePt. II takes things deeper, with crunchy tribal percussion and washes of ethereal FX, crescendos of compressed pads, percussive hits and an understated lead riff. This is serious late-night, powerful, heads-down trance music.

2019 gets off to a massive start at Manual Music, as the Dutch label welcomes back Rauschhaus to the label after his earlier shared EP with PHCK- and his remix for label head Paul Hazendonk which were both released in 2017.

The German producer doesn't fly solo this time, as he has teamed up with talented Ecuadorian producer V-Cious who you might know from his earlier releases on labels such as Parquet Recordings and KDB.

And that's not all, because on the EP's title track 'Boy' the duo worked with Australian vocalist Haptic who's discography is quite an impressive one, as he has collaborated with artists such as Several Definitions, Riesen, Third Son, Simon Doty, Daryn Vlys, AFFKT, Audio Junkies, Marc DePulse and many others!

The beautiful, moody and mysterious 'Boy' comes in the original mix and a remix by Germany's rising star Renga Weh (3000 Grad Records / Lauter Unfug), whilst the more than worthy "b-side" track titled 'People Under The Stars' gets remixed by Argentinian progressive house maestro Antrim.

All in all it's clear that Manual Music continues the new year where they've ended the previous one; pushing quality underground electronic music, as they have done so since 2005.

Stalker: An end of an Era

Het was de laatste keer Ille Bitch & De Man Zonder Schaduw samen in Stalker waar ik verliefd ben geworden op elektronische muziek. Jarenlang hebben we feesten en afters gegeven in Haarlem en omstreken. Altijd is ons vaste thuishonk Stalker geweest. 

Na 36 jaar gaan de deuren sluiten, we denken vooral terug aan fantastische herinneringen. Springend, schreeuwend en zwetend aan de booth of achter de draaitafels. 

Ik heb mogen draaien met artiesten als Gabriel Ananda, Einmusik, De Man Zonder Schaduw en natuurlijk onze Haarlemse toppers die zijn uitgegroeid tot absolute internationale klappers: Miss Melera & Mike Ravelli. En last but least, mijn EMO mentor Minoz, die nu in New York laat horen dat hij de grondlegger van de Haarlemse EMO house is. 

In deze set heb ik geprobeerd tracks te selecteren waarbij de prachtige herinneringen nog een keer langs drijven als de dag van gisteren.  

De eerste track heeft een treffende titel: The end of it All. Geniet ervan.

Yoshitoshi’s Four Points series is about celebrating the vibrancy of different international dance cultures, bringing producers together from four “points” across the globe to create something truly special. Now in its 3rd iteration, we’re buzzing off the contributions to Four Points III. Each artist on the package brings their signature sound to the release, but we find consistency throughout in the melodic and groovy style of the music.

Representing Paris, France is Olivier Giacomotto, whose smash EP “Elle / Lui” was one of Yoshitoshi’s recent highlights. His track “Breath” picks up where the EP left off, continuing the dark and trippy journey Olivier is becoming known for. The track is full of beautiful, fine details, shifting constantly through new sonic territories that leave dancers in a state of awe with its absolute funkiness.

Next we have a collaboration representing both US coasts, with DC-based Enamour and LA-based Rinzen pulling out all the stops on “Quark.” Each of these guys has bubbled up strong over the past year and “Quark” demonstrates exactly why. The track is a case study in precision-engineered production, with grandiose synth builds and riffs that flex like muscular tissue around the track’s backbone, a wildly dynamic and punchy groove.

Representing Vigo, Spain is Aaryon, who made his Yoshitoshi debut in January with the Nos EP. “Atica” dabbles in the sort of cool, nebulous, and experimental techno that makes Aaryon’s sound so intriguing. It’s perfect for easing into the night or bringing down a crowd that’s spent the last few hours hopped up on sonic steroids.

Last but certainly not least is Corren Cavini from Tilburg, Netherlands, who won our Splice remix contest last year for his remix of PQM’s Yoshitoshi classic “The Flying Song.” Corren’s mix grabbed our attention with its slowly developing sequences and clever use of the original vocal. Corren’s remix is a stellar example of how you rework a classic.
