Alexandra Rodríguez (https://soundcloud.com/culturalex) is a DJ, multimedia artist and educator based in Montreal, Canada. She was born in Venezuela, and has lived in Brazil, Switzerland and Mexico. These multicultural experiences sparked a deep love for culture, folklore and nature.

In addition to mixing, she has created "Bio Electro Sounds", an interactive musical installation that she has presented around the world, and features fruits, vegetables, plants and water as musical instruments: https://vimeo.com/133382806.

ABOUT THE TAPE:

‘The first track of the tape comes from the “Tamunangue” tradition that originated in the State of Lara, Venezuela, and descended from a mixture of various African and European cultures. The ceremony takes place every 13th of June and is dedicated to the Saint “San Antonio de Padua”. This tradition is very close to my heart, as part of my family and ancestors live in and come from that region of Venezuela. "La Batalla" (The Battle) is played during the procession and introduces the rest of the songs and dances. In a similar way, my intention in beginning with this song is to invite you to embark on this musical and spiritual journey with me. 

This mix is characterized by the fusion of electronic textures with traditional rhythms from different corners of the world. It is richly percussive and adorned by nature sounds. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it!’

Introducing Pachakuti and young.vishnu! “Semilla” is the first teaser from an exciting new project by multi-instrumentalist Pachakuti and producer young.vishnu.

Although only 2:22 minutes short “Semilla” catches the listeners mind and soul completley and utterly. Over a laid-back rimshot groove chopped by young.vishnu, Pachakuti is having a conversation on rhodes & saxophone. 

“Semilla” can be labeled as jazz funk and we believe that beat lovers will dig it as well. At the same time, “Semilla” only shows one root of the musical vision of Pachakuti and young.vishnu who are fusing hip-hop, jazz, latin, funk and soul with strong messages about politics, identity, globalization and neocolonialism.
