I met Raf Simons years ago at 10 Days Of Techno in Ghent, Belgium. He sat for hours quietly listening to me until the early hours of the morning. Afterwards I found out that he was a huge fan of my Plastikman album ‘Consumed’ and linked by our shared love of music, art and fashion we stayed in contact and developed a great collaborative friendship!
Raf recently celebrated his first collection at the helm of Calvin Klein and not only invited me to perform at the after-party but also to create a special mix for the dinner he was planning as part of the celebration. Knowing that Raf is very open-minded to the outer reaches of cerebral Electronic Music, I felt it was appropriate to create a mix that weaved through some of my favourite Techno tracks that don’t always find their way into my normal four-to-the-floor club sets.

Co-Founders of False Face Music Leo Santini and Hamed Safi aka SpeakOf, have joined forces for a 2 track release, Tolume EP, considered one of the highlights of the label so far. With the success of their individual releases on False Face earlier this year and both appearing on the Top 100 Releases Charts on Beatport, it seems that Hamed and Leo have broken their own musical boundaries to create this record together. Tolume EP exhibits their musical chemistry and ability to deliver forward thinking music as a team. 

Both tracks, Tolume and Maktube, contain a deep and hypnotic groove that blends seamlessly with the melancholy theme that is played through out the EP. The ground shaking grooves and the eclectic melodies recorded by SpeakOf & Santini, give this EP a unique and magical presence. Tolume EP is Hamed and Leo’s first collaboration project and definitely a great beginning for the duo, as they are currently preparing a live set performance together for Spring of 2017.

Earlier this year, we commissioned a remix of Daäna & Brendan Lawless' beautiful track 'Amesha Spenta' to be done by Frezel (of Aftertech Records fame), one of our good friends and now frequent collaborators.  Unfortunately, in the midst of finishing this remix (and an assortment of works for other labels), Thomas' studio computer suffered a HD malfunction and subsequently lost all session files. Fortunately for all of us, he managed to bounce out a near-finished version in MP3 format before this it all went down. 

On behalf of @Frezel and us here at Techgnosis Records, we are pleased to offer our fans a completely free download of this *nearly lost* treasure of a remix.

Inspired by the inaugural Local Source event in Toronto's West End February 2019 and the sounds I dropped as Praktik Swayze there, here is the first edition of the Local Source Mix Series.  A special curation of techno and house and echoes of acid awaits listeners in this first installment: The Wayz of the Swayz, a mix showcasing the Praktik Swayze vibe with some tasty morsels from Martin Landsky, Stephan Bodzin, Maceo Plex, Bicep and other top producers across 24 selections.  Enjoy choice recent releases backed by the depth of tracks culled from over 15 years of collecting vinyl.  High volume listening is recommended. 

We'll follow up with select mixes from other Local Source members in the months to come!
