I was just f-ing around and thought I'd take a stab at a Prince song.  Literally, twenty minutes of me sitting in front of GarageBand. It came on shuffle today and it was such a weird sounding track (spooky and hollow for a love song) that i figured I'd share it.

Thickness

I wrote this song years ago... It's grown into something almost ominous, which I like. The idea of "making it feel like love" as a threat sort of amuses me. "Don't get too close, because I WILL make you feel things. And they may or may not be real. Either way, we'll be making out shortly." This is a demo that I had planned to touch up (there are clearly some scratch vocals here) but I spilled some water on my laptop and lost the files. So this is all this version is ever going to be. APOSTASY INTERLUDE

This demo for Apostasy was going to be on the album I decided not to release two years ago. I personally know far too many brilliant musicians to even pretend I have any interest in trying to make a living singing.  I’m not even a singer! I just make music because sometimes there’s a song in me that I have to get out.   

Something about Frank Ocean’s ‘Bad Religion’ had me thinking about this song. Religion can be like an abusive relationship and sometimes you just have to let go. Get out. Get free.
