Our next aural libation comes in the form of two generous trips from our twin Bakk Heia ritual masters (you guessed it) Schuttle & Jorg Kuning. This time both cosmic travelers have the chance to explore a more longform mode of expression, with ninety minutes of continuous, hypnotic production, all of which is entirely original and previously unreleased.

Schuttle takes the A side, and approaches it with their characteristically collage-like palette. Stylistically, it encapsulates the full spectrum of Schuttle’s esoteric ideas. Broken Atari yelps slide into swampy acid murk, whilst complex percussive weight drives beneath perfectly cromulent and ever shifting pads. After a deep-sub brain massage, the side concludes with the emergence of a trance inducing, pleasure loop that could drift on indefinitely.

Turn over for the B side, where Jorg Kuning has captured forty-three minutes of freeform, dancefloor communication. Akin to his fabled live sets, the naturalistic arrangement flows seamlessly like water over stone. Patterns shift about playfully, with moments coalescing briefly before they dissipate and evolve. It is progressive in the purest sense of the word; the momentum driving forward, gently drip-feeding us climatic spells.

Dart Echo's mix series kicks off with Rings Around Saturn (@rdjm0). Notorious for idiosyncrasy, experimentation, and a wide breadth of taste and knowledge, Rory McPike's 2020 releases saw him jump from fizzing electro on Pure Space to low-ride, dubbed-out bass on Modern Hypnosis. 

His Dart Echo mix is evidence that no genre is safe from the Melbourne stalwart: the journey paces beautifully through the bubbling groove of tech and deep-house with highlights from Galcher Lustwerk and Loraine James and Le3 bLACK. Cognisant of the global predicament, McPike expertly expresses how we're feeling, delivering a mix equally apt for a socially-bubbled lounge-room boogie or a solitary plunge into headphone-headspace.

Qi M0N0 (@qi-mono) arrives with an assiduous selection of rolling left-field sounds with a particular focus on mid-tempo tracks with vocal oddities.

RUPA (@rupa_anurendra) follows with a superb mix of well-rounded electro and modern breaks, beginning gently before cranking the heat up with belters from the likes of Rudolf C and Ex-Terrestrial.

Lily July (@lylyjuly) jumps into the high gears of DnB before weaving an immaculate blend of contrasting tones and sounds that gradually cools down in the second half, all picked out by an ear that is evidently far reaching and curious.

Lara K (@l_arak) smears the lines of conventional mixing by expertly selecting a non-linear myriad of sounds and feelings, leaping from serious head-bangers to more contemplative and wandering tones.
