The synth and rhythm tracks are inspired by my love of The Who. Specifically Who Are You, Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley. Once I started adding melodies it took on its own life. That's the cool thing about recording sometimes. The song goes where it wants to regardless of how hard I try. ;-)

PROGRAM NOTE
Fantasia is my first piece for marimba and another instrument. Perhaps because it is an older work, I had the urge to improve it. Composers are of two minds regarding revisions: some think that you should never revise, others revise constantly. This piece was moderately playable in its original form, but I took pleasure in tweaking it, being careful to keep as much of my original music as possible in tact.

PROGRAM NOTES

The title of this piece reflects the structure: many parts and motives are linked and looped together, forming chains. There are also missing links throughout the piece, spots where notes have been dropped out and placed in other parts of the piece or else lost entirely. The violin part is designed to be a showy and slightly virtuosic, coupled with a solid, ostinato-like marimba counterpart. Both parts utilize flashy, extended techniques.

Counting all the ways everything I've built could crumble all apart. Panic of the day and I'm wondering "where do I even start?". 

Static clouding paradigm. It's not your fault that I've wasted all this time. Overthinking product of my mind. In my, in my anxious time. 

This unwelcome nervous bite, cultivate some peace of mind. 

Willing to use your peaceful garden. Willing to walk right through. I'm willing but unable to be like you. 

Filled up. Teeming. Reaching out to you. To see if you can shove anything remaining down. Maybe find some patience. . . complacence.

Back to feeling weight of stress as I lay me down to rest.  

Peeling off my nails and I'm trying not to freak the fuck out. Count contingencies like sheep as I try to make my body check out.
