How Would It Be

Ryan James Ford’s productions are rarely anything other than inspired. Through regular releases on Marcel Dettmann Records, Answer Code Request and his own SHUT imprint, Ford has proved to be an exciting producer, capable of mangling sounds and styles to fit his wide-ranging musical vision.
The Berlin-based Canadian arrives on Happy Skull with a label debut that dramatically emphasizes the point. While each of the four tracks features audible nods to a wealth of influences and inspirations, the bold individuality of the resultant cuts all but renders such comparisons redundant.
For example, EP opener “Ormst Kaban”, whose wild, crashing, off-grid breakbeats and twisted, foreboding electronics aggressively spar with glacial chords and icy textures. The 16 bit arpeggio lines of 'Hobrv Kegdit' are underpinned by powerful sub-bass tones and industrial drum-breaks that merge to create a densely sprawling mass of dance floor melancholia.
This pattern continues throughout the EP, with “Slown Ridel” and “Nos Ummi” balancing skittish, noise-seeped percussion with the dreamy, glassy-eyed swell of classic ambient and pioneering early ‘90s IDM.

Ostalgia is Rhys Fulber’s second album for Sonic Groove following the success of last year’s Your Dystopia, My Utopia. Like its predecessor, it continues his interest in pushing new boundaries in industrial techno, with kicks and bass lines woven together with clinical precision to cause intense speaker pressure, and atmospheric synth lines that will dig deep inside your mind. The title and the original socialist realism mural on the cover refer to Ostalgie - a romantic nostalgia for the old but comforting ways of Communist East Germany - and a yearning for rigid systems after progression into the future has led to chaos and uncertainty. While the music on Ostalgia is at times a reflection of that chaos and uncertainty, it also refers to Rhys further exploring his Germanic ancestry.

And although the sledgehammer beats of 12 Steppes and Fission evoke
Rhys’ previous work with industrial pioneers Front Line Assembly, he is not simply paying homage to his past musical escapades here. This is
forward-looking music, not content with resting on any past ideologies.

@flyora is a  DJ and producer from Belfast (Northern Ireland) heavily influenced by his lifelong passion for drumming and unconventional music. His mixes and productions jump between raw electro, bass heavy garage, atonal techno and anything heavily percussive.

He was first introduced to techno by Dublin's Midnight Disco - later expanding into electro, EBM as well as garage and jungle due to likes of artists such as Michael Forshaw, Nikki Nair, Locked Club, Holloway, Soundbwoy Killah, Osheyack, Pilo, Tommy Holohan, Sinistarr and Lag.

In this set he explores the relentless sound of his favourite electro producers, with a major focus on detuned synths, distorted bass and mad drum sounds.
