This perfectly timed episode celebrates the essence of ‘Saudade’ aka the act of missing aka the art of longing aka the aesthetic of nostalgia aka romanticised melancholy, bought to you by the newly appointed master in this domain, Sophie McAlister aka the Nutri Bullet. 

Coming from the ever-fresh stables of Naarm’s own ‘Crown Ruler’ *tip’s the hat*, Sophie is the absolute embodiment of a disc jockey, she’s mastered the art of the casual coasting between genre’s in the form of liquid precision. As most good deej’s, she happily works at a record store (whattup Northside), picking the cream before the public can get their dirty hands on it, (god I miss having a dig), then continues to rub it in the face of the public by playing them across multiple venues around Melbourne and even has the audacity to tease them on a few radio shows. The only thing that matches her talent is her character, a legend to boot. 

Now, the important part, the mix. This thing, this short segment of your life, is a thing of pure beauty. From the very first chord I instantly fell in love, and that love grows exponentially throughout those 94 minutes and 34 seconds. The deeply rooted romance is absolutely sublime throughout, perfect spring picnic soundtrack with the people you love. A transcendent trip around the world all within the comfort of your own mind. It’s such a welcomed breath of fresh air in this suffocating climate. Prepare to listen to it over and over.

Back with another sure fire mix for your ears - this time from NYC diggin devotee Yuki Noji.

A timely mix, as Yuki only last week wrapped up 8 years working behind the counter at storied East Village institution, A1 Records. Yuki and her partner have made the decision to return to their native Japan and begin an exciting new chapter in their lives (where sharing music will be a central focus naturally).

One of New York's most respected record nuts, Yuki has been a constant presence by those in the know. Since 2006 she has co-run the infamous Cedar Room, a much celebrated party that has been said to evoke feelings of Mancuso's The Loft. Before A1 she also had jaunts with both Academy Records and Fat Beats respectively. Her discerning taste is acknowledged by some of the city's most authoritative figures and her reputation has led to invites to play heavyweight parties like You're A Melody and Mobile Mondays. One can regularly hear her on The Lot radio where she shares her bag full of eclectic, uncovered gems. An essential listen.

Yuki has delivered a deep and delightful listen from start to finish on this one. Touching on eccentric dub, lovers rock and modern soul nuggets, bent boogie and left-field disco, this mix is the soulful nourishment you need to get you through the week.
