In the distance, through the thick fog, they began to make out the faint silhouette of a towering structure which loomed ominous upon the horizon. There had been many fabled stories told of such magic floating amidst the clouds yet it was far from the norm to witness one for yourself. As they travelled, in the tiny airplane, they wondered if few back down on earth might ever believe what they say.

Was it all just a hallucination? A trick of the mind? A trip as they careered through the heavenly skies?

Slowly but surely, the grandeur of the magnificent old building came into view.

They each rubbed their eyes and clutched each others hands tightly so as to reassure themselves that all was real.

For in the distance were castles in the sky..

Over the past 10 years Shahab has been mentored by and worked with some of the British music industry’s most respected musicians and producers.  From Steve Dubs (The Chemical Brothers), Bruno Ellingham (Goldfrapp) and Clive Deamer (Radiohead), he now also regularly collaborates with Stew Jackson (Massive Attack) and acclaimed producer Ewan Pearson on a variety of music projects and recordings.

With in-depth experience and understanding of the entire process from initial recording through to arranging and mixing, he has worked with a variety of vocalists and artists across genres; developing their ideas from early demos through to achieving their creative vision in recorded releases

Das Spezial is a daring UK-based independent record label, founded in 2019 by music producer Shahab Notghi, with the vision of curating a collective of musicians and artists dedicated to crafting bold, genre-defying music that disrupts convention and redefines the landscape of the UK independent music scene.

Rooted on the South Coast and nurtured across creative hubs in Bournemouth, London and Bristol, Das Spezial operates as a collaborative hive with Notghi at its core. Over the years, Notghi has been mentored by and worked alongside some of the industry’s most acclaimed veterans—including Steve Dubbs (The Chemical Brothers) and Clive Deamer (Radiohead)—experiences that continue to shape the collective’s innovative direction. The project now brings together producers, acclaimed musicians and vocalists —including Stew Jackson (Massive Attack), Ewan Pearson (Goldfrapp, Chemical Brothers), and others—each contributing their artistry to create immersive, cinematic soundscapes designed for both underground resonance and main-stage spectacle.

Their output showcases a fearless range: from orchestral crescendos and melodic ballads to punk-tinged lyricism and brooding electronica. Past projects and EP releases highlight their restless creativity, with string arrangements by Royal Academy alum Drew Morgan and contributions from a diverse roster of collaborators.

Das Spezial is more than a record label—they are cultivating a new wave of collaboration and creativity within the UK independent music scene, pushing boundaries through innovative production, world-class musicianship, and a vision that merges genres, influences, and disciplines into something truly unique.
