An artist whose love affair with Classic is now more of a 16-year marriage with two kids and a nice house in the suburbs, the ever-evolving musician, DJ and composer James Curd presents his new EP for our delectation. 

‘Two Decades And A Day’ explores the essence of Curd’s dance music credentials. ‘Treat Treat Treat’ (so good he named it thrice) is disco at its most pure with seductive hooks and audacious grooves for days. Alongside Chicago veteran Fuzzy Cufflinxxx (aka Bear Who?), ‘Bring Back The Whoop’ delves into Curd’s crucial Chicago house roots, the irresistibly Chicagoan vocal tying together a ruthless ricocheting bassline and well-considered percussion breakdowns into a very neat little package. 

Curd is right where he needs to be on Classic; consistently surprising and never far short of excellent, ‘Two Decades And A Day’ is another instant triumph.

Anjunadeep’s Explorations series returns this August with it’s sixth outing. Boasting five label debutants in Xinobi, Yunus Güvenen, Ole Beige, Ceas, and Westseven, and the return of John Monkman, the latest in the series is as diverse as it is distinct.

First up is John Monkman’s ‘Magnolia’. A cascading dive into the deep end, Magnolia’s haunting atmospheres and whirling leads culminate in an evocative track, triumphantly signalling Monkman's return to Anjunadeep after three years.

Featuring a infectious hook set to a pulsating chord progression, Xinobi’s ’Skulls’ is a floor filler for the masses, marking an impressive full label debut for the Lisbon producer.

Having recently released his first track in four years, Bedrock Records affiliate Yunus Güvenen steps up with ‘Lost In Sight’. Originating from Turkey, Güvenen’s production is both celestial and emotive, evoking the classic progressive sound of the 2000’s.

Ole Beige’s offering is an organic track imbued with tribal vocals and percussion. The German producer’s penchant for emotive house has previously seen the support from Pete Tong, epitomised in the soulful detuned chords and driven syncopated synthlines of ‘Tanzanian'.

A culmination of subtle percussion, nuanced keys, and soaring synths, Ceas’ ‘Parosse’ signals a promising future for the French Producer, previously one half of duo We Need Cracks.

Closing out Explorations 06 is ‘Seeds’ from Westseven, a new project from Kuala Lumpur based producer Rory Gallagher. ‘Seeds’ sees Gallagher bounce deep arpeggios off a brooding bassline to craft an enigmatic and hypnotic atmosphere.

Each release is produced by anonymous artists, who listeners may have heard of from their public aliases. That said, without an artist name attached, the material shines through without any preconceived notions and the music simply speaks for itself. Pure dancefloor magic.

Hans Peeman, perhaps better known as Junktion or as one half of Fouk with label mate and friend Daniel Leseman, also has another side project. New Franklin Theory is his lesser known alias, one focusing a bit less on sampling and more on melodic explorations, with a lot more synth work and instrumentation. He's only released under the moniker once before, a 2 track 10" on his own native Outplay Records that perhaps went a little bit under-appreciated. Now he's back once again on the label with a 5 track mini album of sorts, entitled "Chemical Boogie", to really showcase what he can do.

Peeman's signature percussion is perhaps best heard on the opener, Andromeda Beach, a funk and boogie fuelled jam that's closest to what we've come to know him for. Our premiere today and the A2 on the record, Homeward, features some fantastically spacey cosmic pads and a rumbling bass, lending it a bittersweet, introspective sound. Closing off the first side of the record is Afterburner, an uptempo groover with some addictive synthesized horn-like melodies. Ladies and gentlemen, we have liftoff.

On the flip, the B1, In Orbit, takes you for a ride. The funky bassline and deep rhodes chords paired with the interplanetary atmospheres and effects do the title justice. Finally, The Holtzman Effect, named after a fictional scientific phenomenon, caps off the EP with a hooking subterranean bass that sends you wiggling your butt straight into alien territory.It's refreshing to see a producer so well known for a particular sound continue to explore new avenues and evolve as personal tastes change and mature, but still retain some of that flavour that made his music so irresistible in the first place.

PREMIERE: New Franklin Theory - Homeward

@Jovonn returns to his @bodyndeeprecords label to release the album 'Timeless', his first since 'Blaque House' released on Code Red back in 2009. With releases on such labels as Clone, Apollonia and Dogmatik the last few years, Jovonn set up his Body N'Deep label in 2017 to release tracks from himself and other like-minded producers. The album focusses on the deeper side of house and Jovonn's trademark New Jersey house sound, with contributions by Patrick Mangan (violin) on 'Hesperia Soul' and Cassioware on 'Turnin Me Out'.

We've snagged the deep and lusty 'Turnin me Out' with sub bass for dayyysss. Some serious dark and sweaty room bizness here which can confirm goes off after playing it out a few times lately.

Just a few short, scorching hot months ago, German-Jamaican singer, songwriter,producer and self-taught multi-instrumentalist Ulrich Harrisson aka Tender Gamesfrom Berlin delivered a huge single on Different Spring in the form of 'The Best'.

As summer draws to a close, we are treated to the follow-up to this gem. 'This Ain't Right' once again expertly distils elements of Soul, Pop and House into theinimitable Tender Games style - this time including a generous helping of R&B.

Clocking in at just under 100 BPM, the House aspect of this latest Tender Games creation would be Slow House in this case, but with the straight kick and classicdrum machine beats forming the track's backbone, it is most definitely evident.Harrison has extensive experience with House of course, but he is also an expertsongwriter and has special abilities in terms of mixing genres into something thathas tons of pop appeal without being cheesy or overtly mainstream.

'This Ain't Right' is a somewhat melancholic song - with a super catchy chorus, thefirst of which drops after a spoken word intro, with only a little hi-hat pattern andRhodes chords behind it. When the beats and bass come in as it repeats, headsbegin to nod and will not stop until this beautiful piece of music has come to anend.
