We have an unexpected guest mix, and it's the best I've heard in months - not just in terms of message and energy. Firstly, it's an accurate accounting of the current state of mind and the "mode of sensibility" into which everything that was vivid and real in the so-called "Russian industrial underground" has evolved. And secondly, no matter how insistent the authors are in their reclusiveness, this mix is exactly about what Russian war deprives us of: freedom, freedom to choose and normal abnormality.

Во-первых, это точная инвентаризация нынешнего состояния и «расширенного режима чувствительности», в которые эволюционировало все, что было живого и настоящего в т.н. «русском индустриальном подполье». Welcome to the underground of the Portuguese underground. Not necessarily the oldest members, but at least among the most active and the most honest, because WTVR and 451F are the kind of artists who are involved, not to say committed, in their artistic approach and in all their cultural activism. Whether it's a career as a “pyromaniac” visual artist or one made up of encounters and accidents, these two producers certainly share a desire to defy the boundaries between genres, both thirsting for sonic experimentation.

So, is it still footwork? Is it still jungle? Or halftime? Or breakcore? Not really... and a bit of all that at the same time. And that's what makes this production so interesting. So, let's experiment!

Working with sonic archetypes rather than genres, in recent years Moscow's Pavel Milyakov (@buttechno) has transcended the average practices of what one might call "the electronic music scene" and built his personal artistic universe where the visual and time-based arts are blended into one another. His new conceptual album PSY X, a collaboration between Gost Zvuk and Buttechno's own imprint Rassvet, can be understood as a collection of audio, video and graphic documents fused together in a homogeneous form. Profoundly rethinking the interactions between various media, Pavel utilizes a vast variety of creative tools and technologies - from generative music algorithms to laser equipment - to create (in)determinate "environments", rather than simply "tracks" or "pictures". The result is simply stunning: a meticulously crafted visual container that encases kinetic, alluring and deeply immersive music from one of Russian burgeoning scene's most vivid voices.
