Tech House Unleashed Vol 10 with Guest Mix by Haus Arrest

Teramo native Ben Kim returns to Defected with a remix of the London label favourite, ‘Freak Like Me’ by Lee Walker vs. DJ Deeon. Since his Beatport chart-topping rework of Jefferson Airplane’s ‘Somebody To Love’ in 2021, Ben Kim has become one of the tech-house scene’s most promising artists, with releases across tastemaker imprints Nervous, Kaluki and Club Sweat. Ben Kim now returns to the London label with a remix of the Defected classic ‘Freak Like Me’; the 2016 release began as an edit by UK producer Lee Walker, who reworked DJ Deeon’s Dance Mania OG from the 90s. Lee’s version gave the raw vocal a deep, rolling groove, stripping it down to turn it into a major dancefloor weapon which received remixes and major support from artists like Jamie Jones and Carl Cox. Already supported by the likes of Marco Carola, Michael Bibi and The Martinez Brothers, Ben Kim adds his flair to ‘Freak Like Me’ with a remix that arrives just in time for the summer festival season - its deep, alluring sound promising to fill dancefloors for years to come.

When it comes to music and particularly her label Sous, it’s a personal thing for Anja Schneider. Francesca Lombardo has long occupied a special place in her heart. Lombardo’s background as a classically educated composer and the skilled way she imbues this refined sensibility into her electronic music productions has established her as one of house and techno’s classiest artists, backed up by her excellent Echoe and Echolette imprints, that Anja has championed since the beginning. On the occasion the pair have played back to back, it’s flowed with unspoken harmony. Firm friends for many years, her addition to the Sous family felt right.

‘Spondylus’ sees us duly rewarded with Lombardo in some of her best career form. It is a captivating nine-and-a-half-minute mind-melting journey, full of hypnotic synths and louring undertows that captures the Italian’s skill for expansive multi-layered arrangements that still manage to make the dancefloor kick. A perfect match for Sous. “Francesca is so diverse and talented and always manages to capture this special vibe. ‘Spondylus’ has this timeless energy to it that caught my attention from the first listen. I will be playing for a long time to come,” Anja tells.

Complimenting the original, the Sous boss steps up for a punchy groove-laden remix, filled with crisp percussive layers and euphoric toplines that carries a distinct Motor City vibe.
