Data Transmission

For this weeks podcast we’ve raided the vibrant scene of Vienna to bring you one of the Austrian capitals most exciting talents. A triple threat in that she can DJ, produce and deliver killer vocals, the Brazilian born Joyce Muniz has been a talent we’ve had on our radar for quite some time now and so we were delighted when she accepted our invitation to drop an exclusive mix for us to showcase her undoubted talent. A purveyor of a style which is hard to categorize as anything other than cool, Joyce’s work, untroubled by trying to conform to genre labels and stereo types fuses European club sounds with tropical rhythmic influences from Brazil, South America, Africa and the Caribbean; built on a solid foundation of percussion and heavy bass to created something as yet undefined.

We’re not the only people to note this indefinable quality as Joyce has been picked up by some of the continents hottest labels as a quick glance at her discography shows. In 2006, Muniz teamed up with Stereotyp and created the first Funk Mundial 12” “Uepa/Jece Valadao” (Man Recordings) and Ku bo Ep 1 and 2. In 2007, she and Shanti Roots started producing under the name of Monte Laa Prod and released their first 12”.

In 2008 she contributed her vocals to the Cusmos (Herwig Kusatz ad Karl Möestls) track “Garoto,” which was released on the Kruder & Dorfmeister label G-stone before Joyce then collaborated with Flore, Buscemi and Skero. Her first solo release "Party Over Here" debuted November 2010 on Shir Khan's well known Exploited imprint and received massive DJ support throughout Europe, firmly establishing her as one to watch within the industry.
Esteemed DJs and producers such as Cosmin TRG have since remixed her work and releases on internationally respected labels such as Gomma and Defected have helped to build her profile on the global stage. So with her career seemingly about to blow up we thought we’d introduce those of you still not familiar with Joyce to her unique brand of music full of latin flair. Turn it up and introduce some carnival spirit into your life!

Together, Andre Crom and his OFF imprint have been responsible for some of the most seismic records of the past few years. The German producer has always harbored a propensity for tracks of a dancefloor persuasion, and one look at OFF's back catalogue reads like a who's who of contemporary electronic music talent, with everyone from Robosonic to Chris Carrier to Round Table Knights to Darius Syrossian turning up on the label over the years. Indeed, both label and owner are showing no signs of slowing down recently either, with Crom only recently pairing up with fledgling producer Teenage Mutants for ''You Don't Know'', the follow-up to their massive ''Hangin' On''.

So with Andre Crom and his label riding high both in expectations as well as charts we thought it was time to welcome him into the fold here at DT to deliver this weeks exclusive podcast. With a focus on making dance floors move the sound selection showcase his oxymoronically eclectic signature as he moves fluidly from deep underground pop tunes over big primetime records, from jacking house to reduced groovetools -  for Andre Crom diversity and fresh trends are certainly the name of the game as he keep things interesting.

When people think of European house it is easy to let your mind drift to the beaches of Ibiza or glitzy clubs on the Champs-Élysées and whilst we love spending time on the White Isle and the French capital, for us when we think house, we think Hamburg.  So for this weeks podcast we taken a trip to West Germany  to deliver a mix from one of our favorite sets of artists in the Adana Twins.

After witnessing one of their “adrenalizing” sets at their residency at uber-cool Hamburg club EGO  and seeing them drop unforgettable performances throughout Germany and Europe with their deep and eclectic sets we thought it was about time we shared the talents of the Exploited Records duo via our exclusive podcast. Known for their fresh, funky and fun brand of house music  it’s not hard to see why the pairing have also been picked up by fellow Hamburg resident and new school house heavyweight Solomun  with a such a bright future ahead of them. Brought together by by the power of good Turkish food and the love for grooving electronic music we feel that Adana Twins sum up everything in this set that is great, not only about the producers behind it, but also about house music in general. There have only ever been a few bands that have been able to bridge the gap between rock and electronic music and we think that Belgian four-piece Goose are firmly one of them. 7 years after the release of their much hyped debut album on skint records the boys have developed a much harder electronic edge whilst retaining the energy that has seen their live show become such a coveted attraction around the continent.

The third album Control Control Control was recorded live in the studio by Paul Stacey and Dave Sardy  before being released on GOOSE’s own label Safari Records. The album got a glowing reception and after becoming a firm favorite  with many electronic music taste makers definitively announced them as a force within the scene..

After more than 400 concerts around the globe, their stage talent is well known. Only the truly great manage to sell out the Ancienne Belgique three nights running, as GOOSE did in February 2013 and with that we were delighted to acquire their talents for this weeks podcast as things get seriously acid during their mix. Play it loud!

With Tube & Berger having an absolutely stacked tour date throughout Europe this Summer, AND recently finishing a US tour of Orange County, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami all in just four days where they “met cool people, got a good time and we want to thank you all for the massive support and the positive vibe!”. We here at Data Transmission are pleased that they took the time to bring us a brilliant podcast.

Tube & Berger are a duo formed of Arndt Roerig and Marko Vidovic, they grew up in a small industrial town in Germany, and confronted with the boredom that comes with that they found music at a young age. Their breakthrough came back in 2004 with the song ‘Straight Ahead’ featuring new wave legend Chrissie Hynde which climbed straight to the top of the US Billboard Dance Radio Charts and bookings from all over the world started to roll in. The duo wanted the freedom that many artist crave, so with their friend and colleague DJ Juliet Sikora Kittball they created their own label; ‘Kitball Records’. The three ‘Kittballers’ are also responsible for the ‘It Began In Africa’ charity project. The project, which helps young African musicians, has released two compilations and received massive support from artists such as Timo Maas, Ida Engberg, Format B and Pirupa. After ‘Free Tribe’, Tube & Berger reached the Beatport no.1 spot once again with the track ‘Lovebreak’ featuring Milan Euringer. Then after 8 years of constant touring and gigs in some of the world’s renowned clubs (Cocoon Club – Frankfurt, Sankeys – Manchester, Club A – Sao Paulo), Tube & Berger still found the time to release their first studio album titled ‘Introlution’, which was highly praised by both critics and fans alike. This is most certainly Tube & Berger’s biggest year so make sure you catch them if you can
