2015 is underway and with our new years eve hangover finally behind us we’re in the mood for something fresh for this weeks exclusive podcast. Step forward Luke Miskelly who as a an artist that that has always had a deep passion for electronic music was just the man we needed to get the year underway in style.

With influences of house, garage, drum and bass and jungle, Luke has developed an individual style that compliments the elements of these genres and blends them into house and techno. Since meeting FUSE label chief Enzo Siragusa in 2008, who instantly picked up on his unique style and energy for music, he has gone from strength to strength and is now a firm fixture in the London based labels close-knit roster of residents. Fitting in perfectly alongside the passionate and distinctive FUSE ethos we thought it was about time Mr. Miskelly showcased his skills for us at Data Transmission. Enjoy.

DTP417 - Luke Miskelly - Datatransmission

When most people think of Sweden they think of the usual clichés: meatballs, blondes and reasonably priced furniture. Here at Data Transmission though, we aren’t most people and the first thing we think of when someone says Sweden is house music. The Swedish House Mafia may have brought Sweden to the attention of mainstream music fans in a way not seen since Abba via their chart topping exploits but they are far from the only talent to be coming out of the Scandinavian nation in recent times with a new wave of DJs and producers taking the world by storm. At the forefront of this global takeover bid is fast rising DJ and producer Tobtok who has been moving dancefloors across the globe with his playful take on house and nu disco.

First coming to our attention via his output on French Nu disco outlet Kitsune it only took us a few listens to realise this was someone we  needed to have on the podcast and with Tobtok touching down in London to work his magic at Shapes alongside compatriot Oliver Nelson January 31st we couldn’t hope for a better time to welcome him in to the DT fold now.

So to get you in the mood – or just brighten your day - we thought it was about time we had Tobtok showcase his dexterity on the decks for DT podcast number four hundred and eighteen. Check it out now.

DTP418 - Tobtok - Datatransmission

Born in Siena, raised in Naples but growing up as an artist in London, Davide Squillace follows in a long line of international musicians adopted by the British capital as one of it’s very own.  Returning to Italy with a new found zeal from the European metropolis Davide quickly found himself the name on peoples lips both at home and abroad as he quickly became one of the hottest acts on the scene playing at some of the worlds coolest nightspots. 

Now living in Barcelona, he runs This and That Lab, a unique fusion of label and think tank combining music, art and culture used as a platform for Davide and other like minded artists to develop creative projects in music, visual art, design, fashion and writing. He also forms one third of electronic super group Better Lost Stupid alongside scene luminaries Martin Buttrich & Matthias Tanzmann who delivered several of our favourite performances of 2014. 

So with a big year ahead beginning with a hotly anticipated appearance at London’s Fire for Saved Records first showcase of 2015 January 31st we thought it was about time we had Davide drop a mix for our podcast series. Check it out now!

DTP419 - Davide Squillace - Datatransmission

Whether it's natural talent or simply luck, Dean Marriot, known to the world as D.Ramirez, holds the secret to musical success. Since kicking off his production career in the late '80s, the Yorkshire-born producer has repeatedly turned out essential house records, initially smashing the white label market as the Lisa Marie Experience with partner Neil Hinde (remember 'Do That To Me' and 'Keep On Jumpin''?). Then 2006 rolled around, and with it, Bodyrox's 'Yeah Yeah'; now under his solo moniker, Dean was charged with remixing the track and adding in Luciana's fiery vocal line, and then as they say, the rest is history. 

Despite being credited with reinventing electro house with this mid-noughties mega hit, Dean has shied away from the commercial direction the genre has taken since. So what is he up to now? Well, Dean's latest project, Motherload – co-run by pal Guy Williams – is designed to bring the very best in jackin beats, deep house and disco to London every month. Taking place at Islington's East Bloc, Motherload began its 2015 run last Friday, beating back the miserable weather with purely positive vibes. In conjunction with the series, Dean and Guy hit the studio too, dropping The Motherload EP via Great Stuff Recordings back in September last year.

It's not just East Bloc benefiting from Dean's devotion to house either, as he's whipped up a mix of the very finest in 4/4, exclusively for Data Transmission!


DTP420 - D.Ramirez - Datatransmission

Regardless of what people tell you everybody needs a little drum and bass in their life from time to time so for this weeks podcast we secured the services of our go to guy when we’re looking for our D&B equivalent of our five a day: Cyantific. 

Needing little introduction we’ve long been fans of Cyantific both as a producer and a DJ. Since the early noughties he’s been producing some of the finest D&B music around whilst touring the globe and rocking some of the world’s best parties. Not content with smashing it as both in the DJ booth and the studio he’s also turned his hand to running a label with his own imprint CYN Music going from strength to strength and finding its releases becoming staples in DJ crates of many the scenes coolest names.

So with his hotly anticipated remix of Mike Mago’s ‘Outlines’ having just arrived via Ministry of Sound and a series of arguably even more hype generating releases on the horizon we thought the time was right to see him take the reins on our podcast series. Happy Birthday to us!

Calvin Pepper - In My Bed [Simmetry Sounds]

NYC-based DJ & producer Michael Grald has been sending us his brand of vocal tech since 2022. On hearing his first demos, we paired him up with Terri-Anne, and they released the percussive roller “City Of New York” that same year. Since then, we’ve watched him develop his sound via Amsterdam-based label, Anything Can Happen. His latest release for us takes in some Amsterdam influence for sure as he heads into deeper house territory with “In My Head”. A groovy beat, lovely bubbling synths, and a super, loopy vocal deliver all you need here for a DJ-friendly roller. Classy.

Michael Grald - In My Head (Extended Mix) [Glasgow Underground]

Finding new artists and helping them deliver straight fire for DJs is the core of what we do at Glasgow Underground. Spanish deep house and disco producer Chanknous has a sound that is close to our heart, and with releases on Deepalma and collaborations with the likes of Lee Wilson, he's in that bubbling-under zone that we love to develop. For his GU debut, he takes Britney’s noughties smash and gives it a slow-burning makeover. Add some classic house stabs, a wickedly wandering bass line, and you have a killer slice of Zara deepness.

After last years ‘Go Deep’ with label boss Mark Knight and Gene Farris, Haskell returns to Toolroom with his newest solo project.
