Across a string of well received records on Seth Troxler's Play It Say It, 20/20 Vision and Moan Recordings, The Mekanism has honed a refreshingly uninhibited sound - one that pops with joyful expression and works to serve the sort of free-flowing parties he regularly plays across the US and Mexico.

Here, he delivers his trademark sound with 'Do The Disco' - a rapturous cut that features percussion from Grammy Award-winning percussionist Jorge Bezerra and an alt sax replaying of 'Do It At The Disco' by Gary's Gang by Tom Barford with a gracious nod from Nervous and Uni Disc.

The taught skins of Bezerra's drums rattle out of the blocks and get things off to an electrifying start. Pattered into dexterous of polyrhythms, they carry that certain energy that drives a marrow-deep motivation to move while a straight 4/4 kick maintains a solid boom throughout.

Jorge Bezerra is a Grammy Award-winning Musician and Percussionist who has worked alongside many great artists throughout his career, notably on Ludovic Navarre’s St Germain project, on stage with the wonderful Melody Gardot and as an integral member of the Joe Zawinul Syndicate that allowed him to share the stage with other greats, such as Herbie Hancock, Bebel Gilberto, Hitonari Tsuji, Cheick Tidiane and Bobby McFerrin. 

Barford's sax is steadily filtered in while a bossy bass line walks up and down and the mood begins to bubble. Drums, sax and bass take turns to grab centre stage and the resultant vibe is feverish, balmy and jammed full of fun.

Just as the sun returns to the Northern Hemisphere, Joachim Pastor get’s his Fixi road ready and takes us on a musical trip. Three free floating creations full of musical euphoria and funk filled grooves await! 

Starting off with the carefree “Fixi” track, which is based around a gently played acoustic guitar melody. Spheric effect work escorts feathery pads and strings, while the 4/4 house beat and thumping bassline keep things moving forward on the dancefloor.

Next up is the dreamy “Laos” song. Laid-back, slightly distorted synth and percussion sounds build smooth tension. The energy is fielded by a bright string section and completed by a mellow Marimba melody. 

Joachim is closing of this superb EP with the broken beat anthem “The Same”. A breathtaking field of panoramic sounds evolve over the course of four minutes. Pastor experiments with other worldly vocals and tight broken beats. Pure bliss!

ED ED is Edmond Weinfeld, a Berlin based producer who has also released on OFF, had a big single on Defected’s DFTD last year and also A&Rs for the Moodmusic  label. His music roams from deep house to techno and back again and he places great emphasis on clean lines, vibrant bass and a cool sense of energy, as this new and mature musical work proves.

After the stellar Nunchi EP on the Moodmusic label last year, the ever more acclaimed ED ED is now back with his standout follow up, the Namaimo EP. Up first is the tantalising title track, a broody seven minute opus defined by its big bold bass strokes. Slick percussion and rolling kicks form the groove down below, but that bass is what sticks out, as well as some lithe and sci-fi synths that perform acrobatics up top.

The striking ‘Sentinel’ is our Debut Transmission today and proves ED ED can programme tight, corrugated drum lines and crisp, snapping perc that makes you want to dance a physical dance, and when the tender male vocals come in you really are carried away to a better place. Last but not least, ‘Starsign’ marries deep house drums with explosive and starry melodies, big blasts of frazzled synth and plenty of colourful intergalactic soul. It’s a real head turner, for sure.

This EP is a fine statement of intent and is one that will move DJs and dancers in emotive ways.
