It’s Friday and after finally recovering from our New Years Eve exploits and cancelling this year anemic attempt at a health kick we’re ready to go out and have some fun this weekend and who better to put us in the mood with an exclusive new mix than Santero?

Santero is DJ we’ve long admired here at DT towers.  Now somewhat of a veteran of the UK music scene, we’ve enjoyed watching him use his encyclopedic knowledge of electronic music to move dancefloors around the UK and Europe for well over a decade.

Cutting his teeth with a residency at Nottingham's legendary nightclub The Bomb, Santero was soon a regular at parties across the UK, playing alongside everyone from Grandmaster Flash, Jazzy Jeff & Afrika Bambaata to Annie Mac, Diplo and Claude Von Stroke.

Now based in East London, Santero is an official resident at Ministry of Sound, playing for them both in London and across the world, and runs his label and club night Weird Science with long time studio-partner Pete Jordan.

It’s the latter which brings Santero to DT today as to celebrate his upcoming  January 27th release of the ‘Why They Trippin’ EP on his Weird Science imprint he has delivered an exclusive new mix to get you in the mood for the weekend. Featuring an exclusive sneak preview at ‘Why They Trippin’

Exclusive: Santero Why They Trippin Mix

Sonny Wharton has emerged in the past couple of years as one of the brightest prospects in the UK. Described by The Shapeshifters as “one of the most prolific producers out there” he’s remixed the likes of Fatboy Slim, Frankie Knuckles and The Temper Trap. Releasing singles on Size, Toolroom, Spinnin’ and Skint Sonny has received regular support from house music heavyweights Pete Tong, Steve Angello, Roger Sanchez and Mark Knight whilst continuing to push his own label Whartone Records and dominate the download charts.﻿

As a DJ Sonny shot to fame by winning a DJ Mag mix-tape competition for Renaissance leading to sets in Ibiza at Amnesia, a weekly residency at the infamous Manumission and quickly went on to establish a formidable reputation as a DJ whilst racking up slots for the who’s who of club land with sell-out shows at Space, Pacha and Ministry Of Sound to name but a few.

Known for his technical abilities both in the studio and in the DJ booth Sonny has been able to call us at DT fans of his for a while now. Thus after enjoying a stellar 2013 that saw him continue his indomitable rise through electronic music and with an even bigger plans for the coming year for both him and his label it was only natural that invited Sonny to revisit 5 pivotal moments in his fledgling career. The fact that he also delivered us an exclusive mix to go with it was just a bonus!


Mix of the Day : Sonny Wharton

Twenty years ago, electronic dance music in America was a much different beast than the Las Vegas-friendly industry it is today, divided into underground factions such as house and techno-rave [as they called it]. It was mainly the house and techno coming out of New York, Chicago and Detroit which enthralled and obsessed UK clubbers and record spotters, then in the throes of that amazing period which saw clubs up and down the country regularly packed and cavorting. Every week seemed to bring gargantuan new tunes which pushed out the boundaries and detonated crowds, throwing up new musical mutants as different styles collided and the clubbing communities, anywhere from Glasgow’s Slam and Leeds’ Back To Basics to Full Circle near Slough and Open All Hours at the Ministry, revelled in the ongoing fun and uproar. 

One of our favourite labels to appear in the early 90’s  San Francisco label Hardkiss, which were totally unlike the banging techno and trouser-napalming proto-trance mayhem sprouting at the time. Hardkiss was run by three brothers called Scott, Gavin and Robbie, who weren’t brothers by blood but shared a  spiritual and musical bond releasing a mixture of acid house music, trance music, and breakbeat techno together on their eponymous label.

Sadly the trio was reduced to a duo following the tragic passing away of Scott last March with Gavin and Robbie continuing on without their sorely missed brother. Now to kick off their 2014 we’re pleased to share with you an exclusive mix from Gavin and Robbie in celebration of the release of their new EP RetroactiveFuturisticPsychedelicFunkBump on Whiskey Pickle as the second single from their forthcoming album 1991 which is due to land later this year. Billed as a “ slick slab of electro-boogie rhythms,” the single features vocoded vox and a driving bass line that'll take listeners on an interstellar voyage from Cybotron to Planet Rock.

Exclusive Mix: Gavin & Robbie Hardkiss

In recent years there have been few places the DT team would rather be than in Amsterdam’s Trouw.  Initially intended as a temporary nightspot, the former newspaper factory quickly found a special place in our hearts as it offered one of the finest clubbing experiences in the world launching some of the Netherland’s most promising rising stars and it was with great sadness that we received the news that the club would be entering its final 12 months as of this January. 

One such talent to come out of the Amsterdam institution is resident and Life and Death label manager, Job Jobse who has quickly forged a reputation as one of the one to watch, winning plaudits from some of the scenes biggest names with Tale Of Us and the Innervisions camp already amongst his growing army of fans. Regularly showcasing his diverse musical knowledge, we can certainly see why he’s resident at one of the world's most respected clubs, as well as managing label of the moment, Life and Death, at such an early age.

So with these achievements in mind and  him being about to touch down in London on Saturday March 8th to play for new night We Concur at Crucifix Lane alongside Mano Le Tough, Clockwork and Mind Against, we thought that we’d secure the services of Job to with this exclusive mix for your listening pleasures. This week Roger Sanchez brought his S-Man alter ego out of hibernation and dropped new track ‘Dangerous Thoughts’ & announced his Miami Party & new label launch, UNDR THE RADR, at Set in Miami on Sunday 30th March featuring a formidable line-up of S-Man, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Thugfucker, Maxxi Soundsystem, and Jesse Rose. The was first seen in 1994 with the release ‘Time 2 Stop’ on legendary UK house label, Hard Times.  The guise was Initially reserved for the deeper, more underground clubs he’d spin at in New York and beyond at the time.
