We’re very pleased to welcome back Belgian drum and bass producer Solace to Dispatch Limited, last seen on the label in 2020.

This special two-track release began life in the first lockdown of 2020. Finding the extra time to be creative a benefit, Solace was able to find a new passion and drive in his production output. But when it came to giving the track ‘Liminal Space’ a name, the lockdown started feeling strange. Empty roads, airports, city centres was a very unusual experience. Just like being at an empty airport at night, which is a classic liminal space. To be in a liminal space means to be on the precipice of something new but not quite there yet. You can be in a liminal space physically, emotionally, or metaphorically. Being in a liminal space can be incredibly uncomfortable for most people.

‘Repeat’ is also inspired by the restrictions of lockdown and life during the pandemic, perhaps in a more direct way than ‘Liminal Space.’ The title of the track came first, inspiring the whole production, and guiding the creative output of Solace.

Quadrant & Iris make a welcome return to Dispatch with a 3 track release, featuring a collaboration with Codebreaker and a remix from Sixfour. 

‘Stoic’ takes its name from the Greek philosophical tradition of Stoicism, which encourages resilience in the face of a world and events that we’re unable to control. The last 4 years (and the last year in particular) have been difficult for many people, During this time, the US based couple Quadrant & Iris saw creating music like this as a defiant act. Something they ‘can’ control.

Codebreaker joins the pair for ‘Instinct’ as the talented lyricist and MC defines the authenticity he holds as key to the sound we love at Dispatch. Throughout his many years working within the scene he has seen it change but always return to the underground, choosing instinct over fabrication.

After previously providing top-tier linkups on Delta9 and sister label DTL9, Skankandbass, Overview, Counterpoint Recordings and more, the productive, 4-piece powerhouse Hystatus & Glÿph are back in business, this time linking on a collaboration for the former’s stellar 2-tracker on energetic Bristol-based platform Transparent Audio.

Hystatus’ gritty solo lick ‘Physikal’ is up first, premiered over at Forbidden Frequencies. Warning - it’s an absolute throttler and ‘Varmint’, which we’ve had the pleasure of hosting for you today, is more of the same gleefully evil magic, but you could say it’s ramped up a notch. As we mentioned, Hystatus & Glÿph have a habit of delivering incessantly brilliant collaborative outings, and that trend is highlighted yet again on this b-side. Ingrained with a tad more international, neuro-inhibited goodness, ‘Varmint’ consciously strays from the rawness of ‘Physikal’, conjuring up some real grubbage by the time you’re finished with this grotty epic.
