If you had a DJ over for dinner, what would you play? 

Would you begin with a rare vinyl, play it safe with Lionel - or would you simply choose, to be the music geek that has nothing to lose, when you withdraw your muse, comprising exclusively of your distant lover's favourite collection of Italo eight track?

Start with the unpredictable, just make sure the format's elliptical - and at the end of the evening, you'll want to be pleasing, so make sure the mix is easing, and god forbid it's not streaming - then perhaps, you'll become, just that!

The United States are frequently criticised for all to many obvious reasons: The country's political system is almost as corrupt as Russia's; public healthcare is either non existent, or severely inaccessible; and the increasing divide between rich and poor is engendering a disfunctional social rift, that puts to shame the proud notion of America being "The Land of The Free".

None the less, America still leads the way in one field that holds true to fellow Data Pigeons' hearts: premium second vinyl shopping! In New York in particular, used vinyl records are available en masse. Not to mention they are of good quality - and best of all, they are dirt cheap!

In light of Uli's return to Melbourne, Australia - after spending 2 years living and working New York - it with great pleasure that he presents a mix series showcasing the best finds of his of his "U.S.A. Vinyl Haul".

The first mix in this three part series explores some of the best Disco, Funk, Electro and Nu Jack swing albums and 12 inch singles, which he collected during his time in America, including the likes of: Patrick Cowley, Yazoo, Maserati, Freddie Mercury, Herbie Hancock and more!

Uli would like to extend a special thanks to the best record store in New York, East Village's A1 records, and the fabulous sellers on ebay in some of America's lesser known areas, who understand the true value of second hand records, and the value in passing on the vinyl to someone who will play the music, and look after it!
