Music obsessed Rich Emby is no stranger to the underground house music scene. Having been brought up on a rich diet of DJ's and producers from around the globe. Whilst doing the circuit in various clubs during the 00s, he developed a keen ear for good quality ‘dancefloor friendly’ underground house music – the sound that he has become synonymous with. Whilst he tends to lean towards the deep Jackin house side of the spectrum, his sets never fail to surprise, always changing things up, experimenting with the mix, and throwing the odd curve ball to keep the dancefloor and listener engaged. His ability to use the mix as a tool to keep the energy flowing is a skill which he thrives on.

What's shakin' funky people?! We are back with Volume 201 of the series and we are proud to present a veteran of the Los Angeles house scene, DJ Suave!

Dj Suave is a 37 year veteran dj from Los Angeles with no signs of slowing down. He started djing in 1985 and was heavily influenced by the mix masters on 1580 KDAY ( L.A.'s first Hip Hop station )  which included djs from The World Class Wreckin Crew & Jamin Gemini.

 

He was introduced to House music in 1987 by a friend that had a mix tape by the Legendary New York Dj Larry Levan. Since that day Dj Suave fell in love with House music and has never looked back!

Hailing from West Covina, ( a suburb of Los Angeles ) Dj Suave noticeably stood out from the rest of his dj peers through out the S.G.V. & I.E ( counties of the greater Los Angeles area ). Due to his Underground education, while all the other djs were playing “Hard House” & Top 40, Dj Suave stayed true to himself and kept on pushing Underground House music. And that caught the attention of radio host from Power 106  Richard Vission. Dj Suave was asked to be a regular on Powertools, ( a mix show on Power 106 ) making him not the first dj to play underground Deep House, but he was the first regular dj on Powertools to play Deep Underground House Music. Suave was a regular on Powertools from 1994 – 2007.

Dj Suave is one of the most versatile djs around. From Latin, Funk, Afro-Beat, Disco, Latin Jazz, Bosa, D&B, Soul, Deep House, House, Tech House & Techno. With over 17K records, Dj Suave still plays vinyl as much as he can. Producing the “Estereo” parties, which featured an all vinyl classic house night.

The ‘Otherside' mixes represent another side of what i’m about as a DJ and artist, always mixing LIVE and showcasing styles that either I've been into for years but don't always get to play out, or that have nods to genres that have influenced my sound and direction, or are perhaps just more obscure types of vibes that are geared more towards listening than dancing. As a DJ and music fan before anything else, and as a music collector and lover of such a broad range of music, it really made sense to curate these mixes in terms of mood and theme.

In this edition of the ‘Otherside’ mix series, we head straight for the mainroom - upfront tracks designed for maximum impact. Every record you’ll hear in this mix has been tried and tested on late night dancefloors - I guess most of it would be classed as tech house, but whatever we label it, it’s my personal take on the kind of underground vibes I like to deliver in the mainroom - jackin’ drums, driving basslines, plenty of vocal hooks and serious peak-time power.

The Story: Halloween 2014, Sara attended her friends birthdayparty, a costumeparty (of course). She came as her friend throwing the party, dressed up as she knew him when he was spinning around. A DJ. Never been behind the decks. After being shown some basics, playing tunes she never heard before for a few hours, she left that party with some whole new feels, saying aloud: I have to do this again.
