HLZ has finally released his highly anticipated debut solo single on Utopia Music, and it's been a long time in the making.

For true drum & bass enthusiasts, HLZ's name should already be on your radar. He has been curating the purest form of D&B since 2009 for the real heads out there. These tracks offer creativity and integrity, pushing the boundaries of his own respected style within the genre and nodding to times past with a modern update.

The two-track 12" wastes no time in showcasing HLZ's intentions. "Black Core" kicks things off with its icy break workouts, featuring raw, rasping drums with an industrial edge. It's not a high-speed roller but rather a sneaky creeper that satisfies those who want intricate beats backed with nightmarish overtones.

With "Arcane," HLZ takes us on a journey of pure pressure in the way he knows best, stepping rhythms, stabbing yet gut-punching bass design, working in tandem with groovy tablas, clever fx builds, topped with lush euphoric pad work, 170 in the truest form. It's a distinct track that reveals the hidden magic of a B-side.

This release demonstrates why HLZ is a crucial figure in the genre and upholds the core values of D&B.

Javano’s ‘Continuum’ EP is a journey through sound, blending ambient textures, Drum & Bass rhythms, and dub influences across three evolving phases. With a sharp ear for intricate sound design and a love for deep, atmospheric vibes, he’s crafted something special.

The EP kicks off with ‘Continuum’, a smooth ambient piece that eases you in with its calm, spacious feel. It’s a moment to breathe before things start to build.

‘Could Be’ steps things up, introducing crisp percussion and subtle melodies while keeping that dreamy, immersive energy. It pulls you in and holds you there, layering atmospheric textures over rolling rhythms.

Rounding things off is ‘Tober’, a dub-infused roller with a weighty bassline and punchy drums. The spacey dub elements give it a chilled but driving energy, closing the EP on a deep and rolling note.

Dropping 3rd April via Peer Pressure, ‘Continuum’ sets the stage for what’s next—Javano’s second full-length album, landing later in 2025 with Vinyl, Digital, Special Editions, and a deluxe digital version in the works.

Following up on the drops from Gyrofield and Tim Reaper, Low End Activist arrives on Best Intentions with four mutant workouts up-cycled from dormant projects and moulded into weighty, outer limits club gear.
 
Low End Activist is best known for his sizeable output across Sneaker Social Club, Peak Oil and his own LEA label, where he twists grime and dubstep structures to gnarly, tweaked soundscapes indebted to dystopian sci-fi and social realism. Stepping up to Kasra's Best Intentions label, he tries a different approach by combing back through his archives of samples and stems and piecing together tracks with a sharp, surgical intent. 
 
In a canny display of stop-start dynamics, the A side comes through resolutely moody between the minimal, eerie atmospherics of ‘Wave ’01 and the dislocated vocal trickery and half-step pressure of ‘Wave 02’. On ‘Wave ’03 you can hear the click and crunch of early days Perlon and the rudeboy swing of El B, while the drums on ‘Wave ’04 lock into the mechanical rotation of Gescom as a counterpoint to the enduring hardcore influence coursing underneath the surface of the track.

Four years on from their landmark Grassroots, visionary half-time heavyweights The Untouchables return with their third album, Lost Knowledge. The duo of Kate McGill and Ajit ‘Nitrox’ Steyns have carved out a space in modern D&B all their own, building on a legacy that reaches back to the late 00s to keep pushing into unexplored terrain with an assured and deadly line in rhythmic intrigue and atmospheric immersion. 
 
Lost Knowledge launches into action instantly with the high-pressure drum science and dubby splashes of ‘Drunken Bells’, capturing the loopy techno propulsion and rolling intensity that drives so much of the output on Samurai Music. Where The Untouchables excel is in finding variety and nuance in their relatively forbidding, pared down sound.  

Nothing happens by accident or feels out of place — McGill and Steyns are in total control, and they demonstrate incredible range and inventive approaches within their focused style. The accent of the grooves shifts, and individual sounds carry all kinds of artefacts, yet everything gets folded into the exacting Untouchables sound with a liberal dubwise sensibility. Brimming with inspiration and immaculately produced, on Lost Knowledge their one-of-a-kind sound is stronger than ever.
