Yesterday was a very sad day for the whole Drum and Bass comunity, especially for the Portuguese one. We lost one of the brothers that was part of the scene here due to an ongoing fight with mental health issues. If you know someone who is struggling, a kind word can go a long way in helping them. Whether it's a friend, family member, acquaintance, or even a stranger you meet today, your words of encouragement could make a big difference. Rest in peace Jabaru, keep making tunes wherever you are.

Dispatch Recordings is proud to present “Short Cuts”, an album project created by two long-term friends and favourites of the label. With numerous solo releases and their previous collaboration on the “Most Violent Year” album series, NC-17 and Dauntless will be well known to fans of Dispatch. When we were approached with new collaborative material, the “Short Cuts” project was born.

Drawing on 2000s-era DnB influences, they set out to create something tech-influenced whilst maintaining musicality and that much-needed funk. The pair found a unique creative flow that allowed their styles to gel and enhance each other’s productions.

Dauntless and NC-17 channelled the energy of those early days into an energetic and future-thinking album, citing many legends of that prolific era of drum and bass as influences. Benefitting from a modern approach to mixdown and structure, the resulting album is a varied and multi-layered representation of their shared artistic vision.

Black Barrel returns to Dispatch Recordings with a bang with the “Play EP”. Four varied and eclectic tracks packed with his distinctive production flavour. Easily recognisable by his vocal sampling style and quick edits with precision percussion, the Russian roller brings the funk every time.

The dub inspired “Whatah Bang” sees Black Barrel’s glitched out take on dubwise. The heavy hitting title track “Play” contrasts bright atmospherics with an infectious, growling bass. “Somebody Serious” matches serious bass modulation with a hard stepping drum line and “Burn Up” slowly builds and twists through rumble bass and spaced out breaks.
