This will be the first official collaboration as a duo even though they have DJed together for many years since meeting at a university party in the Netherlands in 2017. “We both went to the same school and connected for the first time playing for a student house party. The bond was instant, and we stayed friends ever since.” Adds Vander. “There were no “underground” parties in the city we were living in, so we created the Delft Underground Movement, the only electronic music event there.

In 2020 we decided that it was time for us to properly work on an EP. We worked on multiple tracks and combined these three for our first release. This EP is the result of a beautiful 4-year friendship, filled with endless support and growth.” The enigmatic Dominican’s sound blurs the lines between Afro-Latin, Synthwave and dark Disco with blissful ease. Vander’s spirit is unapologetically authentic. Equally, Saudade’s exotic heritage - born in India and living now in Belgium - has exposed him to a wide sonic palette such that he cites cinematic and classical music luminaries Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Sultan Khan among his influences. A deeply introspective soul, his life’s journey is to find his place in the universe through his music. Hypnotic and melancholy.

Opening with ‘Binha’ those afro rhythms Vander loves are front and center playfully intermixed with floaty sonics and summery piano. A real treat for the ears. On ‘Freedom’ snappy percussion and a broken beat create an electro vibe Detroit would be proud of. Melodics add a touch of class and a real cinematic feel. Finally, going back to the roots of electronic music, ‘Binha’ gets a ‘90s rave makeover complete with soaring pads, Amen break and an overall feeling of joy and hopefulness. They tell us this is the start of something special, and on this evidence, we can’t wait to hear more!

We met Felix Raphael & Yannek Maunz at an enchanted outdoor concert in Berlin a couple of years ago. Zazou was also performing, and he recalls the intimate setting: "It started to drizzle while we were setting up our equipment. So we moved the entire thing in a nearby tunnel that was open to one side - with graffiti murals to our right and a forest view to our left. Add the rain, and you can imagine how their music swept us off our feet!".
Meanwhile the two surprisingly humble artists have stepped into the limelight of the electronic music world, and it's an honor to release their latest masterpiece(s). Originally they had planned to do only one version of "Don't Lie To Me", but eventually came up with two that were so unique that we opted to release both of them. Mirror for the Sun is a 14-track cycle of tempos, moods, and hums exploring different facets of a softly solar energy. The compilation departs from the Souq’s signature sound, infusing it with a rotation of new elements. Niki Sadeki’s curation brings more of an uncanny Berlin-style voltage to the label’s earthy tradition, shaped by her own learned perception of deep house. The result is a cosmic and crunchy experimental blend, with mingling moments of downbeat drama and upbeat glow. 
When seen through a mirror, the sun’s light only reflects fragments of a fuller picture. Mirror for the Sun echoes this sentiment. Each track contributes an angle to an overall picture of sentience and connection. The 19 featured artists include returners like Zuma Dionys and MoM, and newcomers like Madmotormiquel, Geju, Landhouse Krink and Niju. 
We couldn’t think of a more suited selector than Vancouver based Niki Sadeki, whose vision has refracted across an impressive stream of radio shows, guest mixes, and podcasts over the years. Niki’s ability to musically embark a living-room or a car ride as much as she can a dance-floor is a quality we prize right now more than ever.
This compilation will return annually to Souq, shedding its skin and renewing itself along the way.
