ØZMØZ - Sending My Love (DJ NITEFLYØNE Rmx)

Day 11 of Jamuary. Cue was "Sacrifice" and one of the related technical theme was that of magnetism used to record a signal. With that in mind, I decided my sacrifice would be in not using any synth for this piece. I'd have to rely on other methods of sound generation (test equipment and effects). For magnetism, I would rely heavily on tape echoes.

With these decisions made, it pretty much guided me to doing an electro-acoustic music piece. If you've heard Karlheinz Stockhausen's Kurzwellen, you know what  to expect. Speaking of that, he used a shortwave radio, and I would do the same. The signal was captured today, with me tuning and switching modes (AM, LSB etc) on the receiver for different tones, sounds, effects and noise.

By coincidence, I caught quite a few interesting sounds around the 41m band, including some Koto and Shamisen. Not tuned exactly on the frequency on purpose, so as to get just a glimpse of whatever broadcast that was. I also caught some phasing carrier that sounded pretty cool, and some weird zipper sound.

Beside the shortwave recording, I multitracked 4 more layers of sounds made from noise generators and phasers, signal generators (one pictured), a sequenced pulse generator, a Korg Stage Echo, a Roland Space Echo, a rotary speaker simulator, and even more delay, reverb and effects. I also borrowed the cowbell and clave from the Korg KR55 (used a few days back).

Before recording these tracks, I drew a score, with 9 blocks of 1 minutes, with inflections on 30 or 15 seconds. This allowed me to know when I needed to change direction, change tempo, add or remove percussive sounds, for each layer (recorded one at a time, so that's really 5 tracks x 9 minutes, plus set up for each. I then went back for a final mixdown, adjusting layer levels
