The Lost Ark Studio presents "Shady Grove" by Whiskey Shivers, the first single from the Lost Ark Studio Compilation - Vol. 07. Five guys came in, we set up the mics in the room - and they went at it, laid down a great track... When these guys bring it, they really bring it.

Hatched in the twilight months of ought nine, these five young men came from all corners of the US looking to do one thing: knock the dust off roots music.
A freewheelin', trashgrassin', folk tornado, the Whiskey Shivers take traditional instrumentation, soak it in gasoline and send it into outer space. Breakneck speeds, killer grooves and impeccable musicianship: it's enough to make Bill Monroe himself do a double-take as he spins in his grave.

With upright bass, fiddle, washboard, banjo, guitar, and reasonably priced merchandise, Whiskey Shivers adds a fine layer of grit on top of the hard-driving rhythms of traditional bluegrass.

They've been called everything from "trashgrass" to "hardcore roots" to "crazy-assed redneck music" — whatever the words, the meaning is the same: Whiskey Shivers brings the house down.

The Devil Makes Three - I Am The Man Thomas

"This is a pretty simple call and response folk tune about desperation.  On its face its a old story song, but a lot of the themes can be related to today.  The Inspiration for this came from my Leadbelly library of congress recordings," singer Ryan Sollee reveals.
The Spark is the Builders 5th LP to date, and 3rd on Badman Recording Co., and features a wide array of sounds, while still being a Builders record at its heart.  "The goal was to write shorter songs, to the point, and really work with the space on the record, not trying to cram an instrument into every spot, but really letting things breathe," explains singer Ryan Sollee.  The songs for The Spark are a variety of tunes written over the last four to five years, as well as some weeks before mixing.  Influences are later Tom Waits and White Blood Cells by The White Stripes.  Recorded at Revolver Studios and with Edgar McCrae in Portland, OR.  Album release date 5/19/17

The younger brother of influential Irish singer/songwriter, Christy Moore, Barry Moore had tired of being in his brother’s shadow when he decided to relocate to the United States in 1987. He took the first steps toward establishing his own reputation by re-christening himself Luka Bloom during a long airplane ride. A master interpreter, Bloom has continued to balance original songs with reinventions of tunes by a diverse range of songwriters.

On THIS NEW MORNING, Bloom continues to shake up the folk genre with clever chord sequences and arrangements while still retaining folk’s core values of story-telling and commentary. Bloom is primarily known in Ireland as a solo guitar and mic man. Here, he has gathered together a Who’s Who from the Irish folk pantheon. THIS NEW MORNING sounds like a band album—and what a band: Glen Hansard, Donal Lunny, Iarla Ó Lionaird, Eimear Quinn, Steve Cooney and Conor Byrne. The playing is magnificent throughout. Bloom co-produced this record with his old sparring partner, Brian Masterson, and together they have created an album of outstanding beauty, sensitivity and fun.
