Today my thoughts are with Dave Hewitt! Nice you mention him, so he lives in our thoughts!

From a demo of the band Stormwatch, which was formerly named Das Raven in early 1990s,this song was on based on the British TV
series Das Boot.
Sadly as I shared this with my facebook page, I have learned the Bassist and one of the founder members, Dave Hewitt, has passed on from this world, this then, is one of a series of tribute songs from the band, in memory of Dave.

A little song called Glow I wrote around 2018 timeframe. It's one of those that came together over time, especially the chorus, it was one of those back burner unfinished songs, but certainly never forgotten. I've always enjoyed playing this melody.  I made a few minor changes not long ago, with the arrangement and a few lyrics, and it really feels complete...finally. Ever meet someone where they put something in you that you feel like you can do anything?  I hope you enjoy this live take I did the other night on my old Baldwin. Glow (Original Song Live)

This is actually the third version of the song. I felt the original idea I’d roughed out with the keyboard and computer could be more interesting. So I reworked the whole track again (twice) adding several ‘hooks’. These were some vocal ‘stabs’, some keyboard/synth riffs as well as writing ( what I hope ) is a more interesting bass line. I beefed up the drum section too. I hope the fun I had creating it is reflected in the overall vibe of the track. Having said all this, the question is: did it actually work? 


Get Up

Tis a noble sport but it does have its downside. The lifespan of a wrestler is typically reduced by 15-20 years attributed to the health consequences of the sumo diet. They are also banned from driving cars partly due to being too big to fit behind a steering wheel. The Sumo Wrestler

This song began as an idea Tez came up with on his guitar while on holiday not far from his home in Wales. It had such a punchy 80's rock sound that inspired Mark to write lyrics and come up with vocal melodies within a few days of hearing it for the first time. The two of them have written several songs like this, making them a solid songwriting source for Eclectic Collective. 
  Once the song had a more solid form, Ken added his dynamic, driving groove drums to it. As soon as Ken had the drums down, Josh took his turn, adding the fretless bass and solidifying the groove. Now that the basic framework was done, Stephen added some trippy electric guitar. Next up was JJ, adding his dancing organ and the really cool, psych synth lead part in the bridge sections. Mark also added some 80's sounding backing synth in the chorus parts. To wrap things up, Tez also dropped in the hot guitar solos towards the end and outro.
  Once we had it all in the can, it was time to turn it over to Tez for his expert production and mix. He came up with the idea of adding reverb to the drums, as well as some other compression tricks, which he employed with subtle style. 
   This, as mentioned, is a great example of what Eclectic Collective can do in house with the composition and songwriting skills of Tez and Mark. The rest of us really had fun working on this one, too, of course. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

These are my musical compositions since I began recording on 4-track tape, and later on with laptop, have been adding new compositions in the last few years here and there.
Mostly instrumental recordings, and tracks with vocal, adding extra musical Dimensions and athmospherics.
I have many musical influences, there are special bands and musicians I grew up listening to, Gong, Steve Hillage, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Ozric Tentacles, Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, John Martyn (ecoplex guitar master), Return to Forever,  Zappa, and from my own country, Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore, CLannad.
