Noodles For Breakfast

Straight-to-2-track live, one-take recording of a piece that'll probably evolve into a much longer performance piece. Sounds are from my Doepfer modular, Roland System 1-m semi-modular, a pad from the Ableton library, a sampled Univox SR95 drumbox and a handful of random samples. A couple of midi keyboards and an Arturia Beatstep provided the notes, the whole lot mixed and mastered on-the-fly with a Roland MX-1 performance mixer (which is, frankly, just the most genius piece of kit I've bought this year).All good, clean hands-on fun, hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed noodling with it.

A sequencer-and-real-notes jam. This is the unedited, as-it-was, one-take recording and as such it's full of highly creative errors, zero production value and absolutely no mastering whatsoever.

Some soft -synths, some real ones, lots of hands-on hardware mixing on-the-fly. Another piece that will be going into my live performance sets over the coming months.

A short station ident for my local BBC radio station. This analog-synth re-working of their usual ident was used for the BBC Music Day show, during which a plaque celebrating the electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire was unveiled.

An analog synth "texture", created for my local BBC radio station. This was made for use for the BBC Music Day show, during which a plaque celebrating the electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire was unveiled, however in the end we used material that I created live rather than this recording.

Coventry-based producer and engineer, Roller Derby skater and referee, rock climber, international man of mystery, curmudgeon, occasional DJ and masked crime-fighter.

Only one of the above is untrue.

I noodle around with Ableton Live 8 & 9 and make tunes. I have less than no clue which of your favourite sub-sub-sub-genres any of this fits into, and I frankly don't give much of a toss, either.


For the gear-geeks: Toshiba laptop w/Win7-64, Ableton Live 8, Akai APC40 control surface, Akai MPD18 pad controller, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 & M-Audio FastTrack Ultra 8R audio interfaces, Novation A-Station hard synth, SuperWave soft synths and rhythm machines, ClyphX, Bome's Midi Translator, M-Audio Axiom 61 keyboard, Tannoy Reveal 502 active monitors, Alesis RA300 amp + 20-year-old Soundcraft Spirit Absolute 2 monitors, Sennheiser cans, various shakers, a rainmaker of dubious heritage and some guitars that I hardly ever use, all packed into 10 square metres of acoustically-reasonable space that I laughingly and ironically call "Studio Kasbah".
