Although we are just getting our hotter days of the year here in San Francisco, dancers are feeling the comedown of months of festivities and travel. Trevor Sigler decided it appropriate to make us something to help ease us into the fall season, a mix filled with warm synthetic percussion, gooey melodies, and warm pads. A staple on the SF dance music scene over the past decade, Trevor has had his hands in some of the more psychedelic queer dance music parties like Romper Room and Sqrrrl. A trained audio engineer, his sets lean towards the sounds that take full advantage of where a sound system can go. Glacial, roomy, and precise, Sigler takes a similar approach to his original productions that he does his DJ mixing. We are excited to see this patient and heartfelt music maker continue to make his mark on the Bay and further.

One week a year for 8 days there's a pilgrimage of over 60,000 people that head into the Nevada desert in search of magic carrying gifts with hearts full of love. A place where Radical Inclusion, Decommodification, Gifting, Radical Self Reliance, Radical Self Expression, Communal Effort, Civic Responsibility, Leave no trace, Participation and Immediacy are the rules that govern a new city covered in dust. Dust that's far from gentle but yet the freedom you feel out there and community that welcomes you makes it home straight away. There are many refer to this time of year as going home. Phil Smart has been home 14 times and also been key in Australia getting a version of this magic and ethos so he knows better than most that the playa provides and is the perfect one to have do this podcast that will stay up while many take the journey back home in search of magic.

Phil Smart is one of the legends of the underground electronic music scene in Australia and we are super excited to have him contribute to this series. 

Phil has been playing music for people in clubs, bars, warehouses, fields, forests, deserts, basements, car parks and bunkers around the world for more than twenty five years. He’s renowned for playing fresh sounds and forward thinking electronic music.

Voted Australian DJ Of The Year at the National Dance Music Awards in 2000. Twice voted into DJ Magazine's prestigious list of the worlds Top 100 DJs.

Played at the premier events around Australia including Subsonic, S.A.S.H, Spice, Picnic, Love, Sabotage, Tweekin, Mad Racket, Chinese Laundry, Honkytonks and Revolver, and festivals such as Lost Paradise, Burning Seed, Big Day Out, Good Vibrations, Field Day, Falls Festival, Global Carnival and Splendour In The Grass.

Held an infamous long-standing residency at Tweekin, the Sydney clubbing institution described by DJ Magazine in the UK as "coming under the very short list of proper clubs around the world".

International DJ experience includes Funky Teknotribe, Spundaes, Basics, Sunset and Green Gorilla [SF], PS1 [NY], Shambhala [BC], Black Rock City [NV], Bedrock and Club UK [London], and E-Werk [Berlin].

As an indication of musical versatility, Phil has been chosen to play alongside visiting DJs as diverse as Michael Mayer, Steve Bug, M.A.N.D.Y., James Holden, John Tejada, Adam Freeland, Sven Vath, Derrick Carter, Sasha, John Digweed and Jose Padilla.

Promoter or co-promoter of some of Sydney's most legendary parties and club nights, including Sabotage, The Project, NY2K, Jus Right and Organic.

Co-founder of record labels Think and Thunk, which was responsible for early releases by Infusion and Pocket.

Active member of the Junkbeats collective from Byron Bay in the early 2000s

Released original material and remixes under various guises, including Headland, Earthlink, Altitude and Sprocket, and in collaboration with Francis Xavier, Dave Basek, Jimi Polar and Jon Williams on labels like Motorik, Junkbeats and Future Classic.

Now resides in Brisbane, and also runs a monthly club night in Newcastle called ColourSound, and playing select gigs in Sydney and beyond.

For 10 years My Aeon has provided the inner north with a unique gem of a club. Pre-reno was a haven for the wild and obscure. A place to hear sick beats, chill out on the chesterfields or get wonky out the back. Post-reno it has become super slick & stylish...and that sound!!

Being asked to open the club on this occasion was a huge honour and I was really happy with the response I had from all the punters so thought I'd share. 

It's a little bit varied and odd, but thats what I like to hear when I first walk into a club rather than the ubiquitous 4x4 you're exposed to as the club fills. 

I really hope you enjoy :)

i'll set the scene. It's 5am and my wife and I begin a 7 hour bus journey from the south of montenegro up to croatia. 

the coast along the adriatic sea has some of the most beautiful views in all my travels around the world and while I let the scenery wash over me I felt inspired to make a mix. 

this set doesn't follow any genre or real method to its madness its just a bunch of music I felt like listening to in the moment. 

it starts out a little bit deep and wonky and as we progressed along the coast and the sun and temperature began to rise so did the tempo and energy of the music.

If anyone knows me they know how much I admire and love Kromagon and Sumiruna as musical gods and just down right fkn legends. So to be on the line up, and playing at My Aeon the same FUCKING night as them was an epic dream come true. I couldn’t thank the universe enough if I tried.
Heart is full. Vibes were tight. Thanks to all homies that came and boogied with me. Warming up for AXON was still one of the best things that’s happened in my life to date.
