Synth Mix for Multiple Man @ Stereo 28/04

Got some long journeys coming up (the joys of the Glasgow-London Megabus) and feeling a little bittersweet about the summer coming to an end as well as the prospect of reuniting with some old friends, so felt like putting together some shoegaze tunes to soundtrack it all. Been meaning to do an electronic-leaning shoegaze mix for a while but thought I'd just do a more general, playlist-style sesh where I haven't focussed too heavily on mixing / beat-matching etc, more on placing songs together and keeping a mood going. Lots of classic shoegaze but maybe not people's first picks of songs, plus lots of stuff that might only be borderline (some IDM, dream pop, grunge etc) and lots of my fave new stuff that honors the form, looking to the future.

Orphx have been my fave industrial techno act for a good while, and one of my fave things about them is their remixes. They always cook up something epic that stands apart from the original while respecting the source. NULL / VOID celebrated its 3rd birthday in July, but with lockdown at its peak we had to settle for a live-streamed event, which was a banging evening thanks in no small part to Soft Riot and Skrot Centralen's sets!

Conceived as a monthly club-night blending dancefloor-oriented industrial, techno and EBM - something popular elsewhere but lacking in Glasgow - we started on Sunday 2nd July 2017, taking the first Sunday slot in Nice N Sleazy's basement. We were thrilled to see such a mixed crowd show up and this only built over the first few months, encouraging us to put on our first live show for Hallowe'en that year. We chose goth overlord Qual to fit with the Hallowe'en theme, and synth wizard Soft Riot came onboard as support. The night was a resounding success, which led to us focussing increasingly on live acts (along with a few of our fave fellow DJs).

Since then we've had live acts playing most months - such as techno heavyweight Duellist, local rave wiz Sluhg, industrial icon E.S.A. and EBM master Autumns - and DJs like JD Twitch of Optimo and Ben Techy. We've also done occasional events in larger venues where we've had guests like NYC's Andi Harriman (of Synthicide) Keepsakes and Christina Sealey of Orphx.

We were really hoping to be able to have a party to celebrate making it to 3 years but obviously there are bigger things going on - missing the live gigs gave us the idea to put together some tracks from the guests we've loved so much over the years, almost like a mini-festival for your headphones. We're pumped to have local legends like Kleft, Denizens and South Heights rubbing shoulders with international belters Multiple Man and Celldod,  while there's new flesh in the form of punkish upstarts A Civil Terror and Skrot Centralen plus a debut from one of oor Dirty Marc's own projects, Duras.

We are donating any proceeds from this release (tape/digital) to Scotland's own Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights - there's so much we want to highlight and help all over the world, but for now there's still work to be done on our doorstep.
