Gutted to hear of Mimi's passing - Low have been one of those bands that have helped me through thick and thin since getting into them 15-odd years ago. Their 13 albums have an amazing amount of unforgettable songs, and at the centre of it all Mimi is usually the standout. I wanted to select something from each album plus a few other faves and string them together to highlight how much different ground the band has covered while having a consistent identity. No Joy's brilliant new album 'Bugland' has sent me back to lots of other recent and older shoegazey stuff that incorporates more electronic elements, whether it's just some keyboards / fuzzed out organs or full digital distortion and glitchiness. Halloween 2K25 - Hype Mix for Lawn Of The Dead II (31/10)

Got some long journeys coming up (the joys of the Glasgow-London Megabus) and feeling a little bittersweet about the summer coming to an end as well as the prospect of reuniting with some old friends, so felt like putting together some shoegaze tunes to soundtrack it all. Been meaning to do an electronic-leaning shoegaze mix for a while but thought I'd just do a more general, playlist-style sesh where I haven't focussed too heavily on mixing / beat-matching etc, more on placing songs together and keeping a mood going. Lots of classic shoegaze but maybe not people's first picks of songs, plus lots of stuff that might only be borderline (some IDM, dream pop, grunge etc) and lots of my fave new stuff that honors the form, looking to the future.
