"When I get asked to do mixes I often take that as an opportunity to put together a selection of my favourite pieces from a specific era, genre or composer. In this case I compiled a number of my favourite Japanese electronic tracks as I have been listening to a lot of that stuff for the past year or so."

Throughout the last decade Ulrich Schnauss has produced three albums which perfectly captured his vision of taking the 90's 'Shoegaze' aesthetic - very uncool at the time as we'll discuss below - and placing it into an electronic context. With the new album 'A Long Way To Fall' Ulrich felt the need to change and explore new avenues. And it's another beauty.

On the 3rd July, German born musician and producer Ulrich Schnauss will play an extra special live A/V show at Electrowerkz. We decided that this was the perfect time to have him create his Ransom Note Mix and we caught up with him to find out a bit more about his background, his mix and his general thought on music;

Experiments in Hypnagogic Terror Vol. 1

Here's a mix by my friend Bobby Beige recorded whilst his first residency on Ibiza this autumn. He  usually plays lovely records all summer long in the wonderful Garden in Zadar, Croatia. Ibiza isn't bad either - especially La Escollera where the magic happened that you'e about to hear ;) 

Bobby's in the music biz for a long time already. Being part of the Pork collective (he recorded as Bullitnuts, Opik and Momma Gravy) Bobby's playing chilled out music since the mid nineties. Apart from being a supernice guy Bobby got TASTE and knows his shit from Azymuth to Thrill Jockey. I had the pleasure to play some hours of back to back with him this summer and every tune that he dropped was brilliant! Just as this selection. Thanks a lot Bobby!!

A couple of years ago I did a mix that once i'd finished I thought sounded like it could have come from Ibiza during the mid 70's. It was't that it contained loads of music from that period in fact far from it, but it had what I imagined to be the vibe from the Island at that time - a perfect blend of beauty, decadence, chilled out fun and funk all mixed up with a steady stream of quality psychedelics.... 
I called it Ibiza 76'ish and this is the sequel..
