A stalwart of our scene and a staunch proponent of textured and introspective sounds, Dave delivers Mantra Collective a considered mix spanning ethereal grooves and avant-garde loops. 

Owner of Sydney’s finest underground dance music record store, Something Else Records, he’s a true and recognised curator of sonic journeys both on and off the D-Floor. Having made appearances in DJ booths the world across, Dave’s experience speaks for itself – known best for melding club fodder tracks with thought provoking dancefloor killers.

"I'm Dave Stuart and I'm that DJ/Record Store owner & event promoter from Sydney. I've plied my 'craft' through the best & worst times on Sydney's nightlife and I'm still as passionate about what I do as the night I first set foot in a DJ booth.
Every part of searching for music to stock at our shop, finding tracks to fit in my DJ sets, and figuring out which DJ's to book & when for our events gives me reason and purpose and I enjoy every second of it.

As a DJ I love the deeper dub cuts of records, and most of my DJ sets show this side of me, for those of your that like to categorise things via genres then feel free to pigeon hole me as a DJ that plays dub techno, minimal house, tech house, deep house, and techno.... so yes all the bollocks.
But I try as best I can to adhere to some sound advise that a DJ much better than myself once gave me; “it's not what you play, it's when and how you play it”. And that simple sentence has influenced how I approach my DJ'ing. Aside from playing in Sydney for what seems like forever I regularly visit Europe to play and have been known to play in the usual haunts including; Tresor, Globus, Salon Zur Wilden Renate, Golden Gate, Chalet and Griessmuehle, Secktor, Dresden, & more.

When it comes to events I have been running in parties in Sydney for over a decade and am co-founder of Something Else, which has somehow managed to stay running (mostly in a weekly format) since 2014 but we've been around longer than than in other guises....Something Else has a house & techno vibe and again if you need to know names..... we've had the likes of DJ's like; Vlad Arapasu / Ada Kaleh, Silat Beksi, Eric Cloutier, Vril (Delsin/Giegling) Patrice Scott, Sistrum, DJ DEEP, Deeply Rooted, Norman, Nodge, Ostgut Ton, Answer Code Request.... you get the idea right?

In 2018 Something Else expanded and opened a record store under the same name, Something Else Records is based in Sydney's suburb of Newtown and is focused primarily on similar sounds that you would find at the Something Else and similar like mind parties around Sydney. Something Else Records proudly carries exclusively electronic music across the house, techno and electro spectrum."

Chances are if you have been to Sydney to party you have encountered our man, Dave Stuart. It is not hard to miss Dave  sporting his signature scarf and beard behind the decks. 

Whether playing his residency in the club at Something Else or out in the fresh air at Subsonic Festival you would have had the pleasure of hearing one of Dave's deeply constructed sets built on  years of studying the craft and collecting the finest of records.

Dave has cemented himself as one of Australia's finest selectors  and DJ's allowing him to have played alongside some of the biggest international and Australian DJ's that pass through Sydney town such as Luke Hess, Kollektiv Turmstraße, Peter Van Hoesen, Efdemin, Aril Brikka, Insect O and many, many more..

Dave also took his signature deep sounds to Europe for 6 months playing at Tresor and Golden Gate in Berlin, Parallel at Griessmuehle, Moxxom Festival and Macarena Club in Barcelona.

What gets our creative juices flowing? For many of us a common feeling would be that music is the one thing that we can use to express & share feelings and emotions that we sometimes cant express in all that simply.

Dave is renowned to a refined eclectic taste that has no typical genre definition, he is one of those artists that searches for the best of all music to create something unique in all of his performances. Dave has ran parties around Sydney and toured some of the most unique acts the world has to offer under his brand Something Else, which naturally also amalgamated into Something Else Records, a record store set in Sydney’s suburb Newtown, which is the freshest in underground sounds from all streams, and is another reason why Dave always has his finger on the pulse. Friction is stoked to have the master provide us with a mix of tunes all harvested from his own Sydney record store.

Describing himself as a “ DJ / Record Store owner & event promoter from Sydney” Dave has been a mainstay in the local scene for many years. He has been running in parties in Sydney for over a decade and is a co-founder of Something Else, a project that has invited the likes of Norman Nodge, Answer Code Request  and DJ Deep, amongst many others,  to play. 

In 2018 Something Else expanded and opened a record store under the same name, Something Else Records. Some people in all quarters of the music industry have recently approached us to what This Is Progressive is all about? Is it just progressive house, is it parties, is it just mixes, what is it? To put it into a nutshell, it is a music media and event s agency that supports, nurtures and develops new and established artists in house music, progressive, techno, deep house and even more leftfield sounds. It is about being a platform to be heard within all the whitenoise created by PR machines. It is to develop or create new avenues in ones career, by giving them a professional base to showcase themselves. It is controlled, it filters out the mainstream and delivers intelligent music, not only to the underground, but accessible to everyone. We are not RA, we are not Mixmag, we are a collective of passionate artists from around the world who are pushing back against the hype.
It is a labour of love for us, it is a passion that runs deep, a feeling of taking back control of an industry we love and so heavily invest in with our own personal lives. We are not grandstanding, we are not thinking we are going to change the world overnight, but we do hope that we can slowly be a game changer in what people listen to, explore or experience.

Dave Stuart - Everything is Temporary

DJ bios are terrible things... so let me just tell you a few things about myself and we'll leave it at that?

I'm Dave Stuart and im that DJ / Record Store owner & event promoter from Sydney. I've plied my 'craft' through the best & worst times on Sydney's nightlife and im still as passionate about what I do as the night I first set foot in a DJ booth.

Every part of searching for music to stock at our shop, finding tracks to fit in my dj sets, and figuring out which dj's to book & when for our events gives me reason and purpose and I enjoy every second of it.

As a dj I love the deeper dubbier cuts of records, and most of my dj sets show this side of me, for those of your that like to categorise things via genres then feel free to pigeon hole me as a dj that plays dub techno, minimal house, tech house, deep house, and techno.... so yes all the bollocks. But I try as best I can to adhere to some sound advise that a Dj much better than myself once gave me; “its not what you play, its when and how you play it”. And that simple sentence has influenced how I approach my dj'ing. Aside from playing in Sydney for what seems like forever I regularly visit Europe to play and have been known to play in the usual haunts including; Tresor / Globus, ://about blank , Salon Zur Wilden Renate, Golden Gate, Chalet and Griessmuehle, Secktor – Dresden, & more.

When it comes to events I have been running in parties in Sydney for over a decade and am co-founder of Something Else, which has somehow managed to stay running (mostly in a weekly format) since 2014 but we've been around longer than than in other guises....Something Else has a house & techno vibe and again if you need to know names..... we've had the likes of djs like; Vlad Arapasu / Ada kaleh, Silat Beksi, Eric Cloutier, Vril (Delsin / Giegling) Patrice Scott (Sistrum), DJ DEEP (Deeply Rooted / Fr), Norman Nodge (Ostgut Ton), Answer Code Request.... you get the idea right?
