A new talent is added to our roster, this time the argentinian Alderaan, after several releases in labels such as Animal farm, Mindtrip, Planet Rhythm and our very own Aine.

He offers five slices of modern techno, heavy percussive based but whit a lot of intelligent elements inside. 

First cut is Ancient Particles, multiple drum layers, heavy reverberation and obsessive sequences as sound palette. 

Parallax follows in the same style but adding more drone action and bell like lines in a clever arrangement. 

Oscar Mulero remixes Retina getting rid of the textures and focusing in rhythm and repetition in a minimalistic remake.

Retina is a cosmic exercise, with galactic resonant bleeps, atmospheres and ambiental components in a dreamy structure.

No quarter returns to percussive territories, again with drones and atmospheres floating over the beat in an hypnotic travel thru deepness.

Timeless techno for the mind and for the body, soul as a weapon.

Soma kick off 2020 with a brand new and captivating release from Giordano. The Berlin based artist has been building his stock at Soma over the past year and this latest release sees him further develop his trademark deep and provoking sound. 

Title track Surface gets the EP moving. Erratic synths and tweeking patterns create an air of dissonance throughout the track and sparse and minimalistic drums create the drive. Lumocolor leans more on a subtle build up of the elements as each piece gradually builds and delivers on high intensity. Fine Point builds on a more groove laden aesthetic as sweeping pads add ethereal elements to the already emotive hook. Closing out Giordoano’s first EP of 2020, 1 Day Left brings a more sci-fi feeling to the whole EP. FX laden hooks gather momentum as sub heavy drums and spacial atmospheres create the backbone.

Soma present a special collaboration between label heads Slam and another of Techno’s top tier duos, Obscure Shape & SHDW. With both of these acts currently at peak form, Oblique Strategies is the culmination of a shared vision where both styles of production shine through on every track. Starting as a singular idea, shared between the pairings, each then took their turn to put their own stamp on the tracks. The results are plain to see as Strategy 1, 2 & 3 express the very best of what these renowned duos bring to Techno.

UK techno don Jay Clarke joins the Soma ranks with The Kicker. Jay has started making his mark on the global techno scene with some serious releases via the awesome Klockworks label, and of course his own BLACKAXON imprint. Jay’s sound is characterised by elements of straight-up intense techno, blended with deeper Detroit-esque elements, culminating in a unique and well-produced style.

Straight Through opens up Jay’s Soma account and focuses firmly on the dance floor. Looped out, driving percussive elements push the track as hypnotic synths keep the rhythm flowing. Overlook has a tribalistic feel to it as wooden percussion work into a perfectly orchestrated groove allowing chopping hi hats and rides to deliver intensity as swelling atmosphere keep things ominous. Taking things down a deeper path, The Spark bounds with a well-crafted groove as spatial synth work brings more melodic and emotive aspects to the forefront. Title track The Kicker offers up the most diverse sounding cut on the EP with broken beat rhythms and discordant, almost jazzy synths breathing a distinct life throughout the track.
