I found an old photo from our childhood	
You were walking along, I was trailing behind	
On a country road as the leaves were turning	
We did not know what we might find	

In the distance the trees look so tiny
The sides of the road seem to converge
At the vanishing point that just pulls you forward
You could walk forever if you had the urge

You were bigger but not that much older
A year and a half and a day and a half
That’s the way that you liked to say it
And remembering you still makes me laugh

We wrestled and biked and went fishing
Shared comic books and a chemistry set
Playing and learning in all we did
Such a sweet time, I will never forget

You showed me I need not be frightened
Of what people thought or what they said
Though we were both shy, you were always bolder
And sometimes you seemed so far ahead

Your compass was steady, your heart was true
And you’d help any stranger who lost their way
